A Staff Fire Alarm Design Engineer is responsible for methods of design, fabrication, and operation of fire alarm engineered features, uses judgment to investigate alternative solutions and provides technical assistance to other designers.
-Originates basic fire alarm deliverables and documents
-Assists in the development of fire alarm riser diagrams
-Performs and checks fire alarm system calculations
-Coordinates technical documents with other disciplines/contractors
-Participates in coordination with other disciplines/contractors
-Develops simple schematics
-Uses 2D CAD skills
-Uses 3D CAD skills (optional)
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and working long hours, including weekends and evenings in order to get a project completed on time
-Assist with fire alarm system bid estimates
-Witnesses PITCO and field inspection and testing procedures
-Ability to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image
-Minimum 2-4 years of fire alarm design experience
-BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology
-National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), Fire Alarm Systems, Level 2
-Experience with MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, Revit
-Knowledge of electrical engineering theories
-Knowledge of technical writing, basic business management
-Basic awareness of industry codes and standards
-Familiar with the application of fire alarm equipment
-Familiar with the electrical engineering web site and how to find department guides and standards
-Proven ability to perform manual voltage drop and standby battery capacity calculations
-Effective verbal and written communication skills.
-Security Clearance eligibility
-Up to 25% travel, must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
-Must be willing to work on M.C. Dean, Inc. projects anywhere in the operating area, may be required to travel.
-National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), Fire Alarm Systems, Level 3 or 4
-Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
