The Role

Department:  Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering

Tesla Motors is looking for a Jr. Manufacturing Engineer to support the design and delivery of manufacturing equipment and processes in our Fremont factory.  This position will support both current and future model year vehicle programs.


  • Support the creation of manufacturing plant requirements and processes that are aligned with the program product profile in one of several possible shops – Body in White, Vehicle Assembly, Stamping, Plastics, or Castings
  • Ensure designs are feasible for manufacturing
  • Create and develop manufacturing plant designs, manufacturing processes, and production tooling
  • Interface with tooling and construction suppliers
  • Provide input for make vs buy decisions
  • Support the creation and execution of plant tooling design, verification plans, and test methods
  • Support vehicle development milestones and build events
  • Create tooling specifications, PFMEA, and other technical design documents
  • Support Engineering team meetings


  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (MS preferred)
  • Previous intern or work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to execute using latest manufacturing methods and requirements
  • Strong passion for manufacturing innovation
  • Automotive experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Catia preferred
