We seek an outstanding Chief Financial & Administrative Officer to join our executive team and help lead the next phase of our organization’s extraordinary journey.


Overview of Position: 

The CFAO is a key position on our senior management team, charged with leading our finance, administration, HR, organizational development, IT and legal functions. Reporting to the President & CEO, this executive leadership position requires a strategic thinker, capable manager, and team player. The CFAO is responsible for strategic management of financial assets and ensures the fiscal health of the organization as well as its operational effectiveness.   


As a key leader in a dynamic and changing organization, the CFAO is an innovative, hands-on leader who will assess, develop, implement, and continually improve strong systems and procedures for the organization.  S/he is an active member of the executive leadership team and, as such, collaborates with other C-officers in designing and implementing the organization’s strategic plans and ensuring a successful, mission-focused work environment.  We seek an entrepreneurial thinker with outstanding analytical capabilities who is passionate about making a difference in the world.

Key Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership

  • Serve on the Executive Team, participate in Board meetings, and contribute to successful development and implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Oversee the Finance, IT, HR and Administration teams.
  • Serve as a thought partner and team member on cross departmental teams, as needed.

Finance and Legal

  • Provide financial analysis and leadership on strategic issues including pricing, major service contracts, new business opportunities, and growth capital.
  • Oversee financial reporting to CEO and Board finance and audit committees.
  • Lead annual budgeting as well as long-term financial strategy and planning.
  • Act as accountable C-level officer for annual external audit.
  • Steward banking and lending relationships.
  • Work as primary liaison with external legal counsel on issues ranging from global trademark to contract management.

Information Technology

  • Oversee IT strategy and team, with particular attention to the implementation of a new techonology architecture, hardware and software procurement, and system integration.
  • Lead development of new IT strategies aimed at transforming the core business over the next 5 years.

Organizational Development, HR and Administration

  • Help design and implement organizational development programs to increase productivity, effectiveness, and scalability as the organization grows.
  • Oversee the development of corporate policies and procedures appropriate for the organization’s stage of development and growth plan.
  • Oversee the development of programs around compensation, benefits, performance management, professional development and recruitment.
  • Advise senior managers on matters of goal setting, operational effectiveness, and performance metrics and measurement.
  • Oversee back-office administrative support and services to the organization.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated track record in implementing systems and processes which enable growth and effectiveness.
  • Experience in scaling entrepreneurial and high-growth organizations.
  • Ten or more years of senior management experience across finance, technology, legal and HR.  Strong background in budgeting, financial planning and analysis, financing strategies and GAAP requirements. 
  • Strong leader and communicator with track record of building relationships and instilling confidence in the board, management, funders and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent management, quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Unimpeachable integrity, self-confidence, a high level of energy, and a sense of humor.
  • Passion for Fair Trade USA’s mission, vision, and values.
