QA Engineer - Desktop OS

Location: Office based - Taipei Taiwan

 

Summary

Canonical's Professional & Engineering Services group is responsible for building custom versions of the popular Ubuntu Desktop operating system for use on laptops, desktops, and other computing devices. With the help of thousands of community members, Ubuntu is the fastest growing and most widely used Linux distribution in the world. The PES group takes the result of that hard work and adds new and exciting desktop user interfaces, drivers for the latest wireless technologies, and works closely with manufacturers on hardware improvements. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Develop test planning and project documentation based on customer requirements

  • Develop test case suites for customized Ubuntu Desktop and Mobile environments

  • Perform automated and manual testing of custom versions of Ubuntu Desktop and Mobile platforms

  • Execute and track testing progress across multiple projects and customers

  • Support local engineering staff with SQA process development/implementation

  • Establish proactive measures to improve the quality and reliability of the Ubuntu platform

  • Prepare time estimates and schedule for testing activities

  • Identify, isolate, and document bugs clearly and concisely in the bugs database

  • Work with hardware partners on adapting the test framework to suit their needs

  • Triage test-generated reports and customer bugs

 

Required skills and experience:

 

  • 4+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance or equivalent, some team lead experience would be a plus

  • Experience with the Linux desktop, and related technologies

  • Solid grasp of commercial QA practices and ideas on how to integrate them into Linux Community standards

  • Understanding of mobile and embedded platforms

  • Experience with common scripting languages, including Shell script, Python or Perl

  • Comfortable with online communication and collaboration such as mailing lists, IRC, wiki

  • Excellent logic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong English language communication skills

  • Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team
