Crop Insurance Adjuster Intern — Flexible
Part-Time & Full-Time

Position Summary:  The Crop Insurance Adjuster Trainee is responsible for taking instruction and guidance from as well as working alongside Area Claims Supervisors and other Adjusters for on the job training. The Crop Insurance Adjuster Trainee is responsible for learning and testing on MPCI and Crop Hail rules, regulations, and loss adjusting standards. This position is responsible for completing field inspections, reading maps and aerial photos, measuring fields, storage bins and assessing damage or loss. This position requires a basic understanding of insurance policies, adjusting practices, basic crop and special provisions, and loss methodologies. This position requires a high degree of physical ability such as climbing grain bins, walking over rough terrain for long distances, etc. The Crop Insurance Adjuster Trainee reports directly to the Area Claims Supervisor for assigned territory. This position may travel two (2) weeks at a time and may include travel to areas outside the assigned territory, state, or region. 

 

Qualifications required:

  • High school diploma
  • Previous experience in the agriculture industry
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • Proficient in basic computer and internet applications
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees and customers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in daily operations
  • Ability to conduct daily duties in a professional appearance and manner
  • Reliable means of transportation with the ability to travel within assigned territory
  • Excellent customer service skills

 

Qualifications desired:

  • Ag Related experience and background
  • Strong technological skills

 

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Work with adjusters for on the job training, studies MPCI and Crop Hail rules, regulations, and loss adjusting standards
  • Completes required training hours, testing, obtains CAPP certification, and obtains any State required license within 10 months from the date of hire 
  • Performs field inspections, reads maps and aerial photos, measures fields, inspects storage bins and discusses findings or crop losses with producers
  • Assist with the handling of the loss adjustment of routine claims
  • Effectively and efficiently assist Adjusters in management of claim  workload
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to ProAg performance standards for contacting insureds, checking and responding to email, and conducting daily business professionally
  • Perform fact-finding as it relates to determining cause of loss/percentage of loss, etc.
  • Proper use of ProAg systems (ProAgWorks, Fieldworks, etc.) to record information and transmit loss information
  • Gain knowledge of RMA rules and regulations as well as ProAg procedures for applying all MPCI, Crop Hail, and Federal Crop Insurance regulations
  • Attend training sessions as directed which are generally at the State, Regional, or National level

  • Other duties and projects may be assigned

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks with speed and accuracy

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills a must
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential material strictly in accordance with company policy, RMA guidelines, etc.
