The Canada R&D Centre, based in Ottawa, is leading research and development of Telecom Network Infrastructure, in 4G/LTE-A, optical, network processing, and switching/router technology as we continued to promote all-IP transformation for our customers.
Position Overview
Huawei Technologies Canada is undergoing an expansion in our Canada Research Centre that will see a substantial increase of the technical workforce and a significant rise in patenting activity. In support of this, Huawei Technologies Canada is looking for a patent lawyer/agent to help build and manage its patent portfolio for inventions generated at its Ottawa location.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate needs to be a self-starter, capable of:

Creating and implementing legal and technical patent filing and prosecution strategies

Establishing and maintaining an invention disclosure review process

Working closely with Huawei’s engineers and management to identify and evaluate patentable inventions

Instructing and managing outside patent lawyers/agents in connection with the drafting and prosecution of patent applications
While not the focus of the position, there will also be some prior art searching, or prior art search reviewing, and drafting of applications for filing in the USPTO and other patent offices worldwide.
Qualifications
Key qualifications you hold include

Registered USPTO/CPO Patent Agent
-
Five or more years experience preparing and prosecuting U.S., Canadian and/or international patent applications preferably in the telecommunications, semiconductor, and computer fields

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field, preferably Master’s Degree or higher

Strong written and oral communications skills
