Description

Rescan has a career opportunity in Vancouver, British Columbia for an experienced Terrestrial Ecologist.  We are looking for an Intermediate Terrestrial Ecologist to carry out baseline data collection and environmental assessments, for projects throughout Canada.

 Qualifications:

  • A University degree in an ecology related field (e.g. Ecology, Forestry, Biology and/or Environmental Science)
  • While a graduate degree is an asset, real world experience in consulting is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience researching, classifying and assessing terrestrial ecosystems;
  • Demonstrated understanding of ecosystem components and their interrelationships;
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Ability to design and implement various biological field survey programs regarding terrestrial and wetland ecosystems. Strong working knowledge of terrestrial ecosystem classification. Preference will be given to those with experience in multiple jurisdictions, including BC, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
  • Knowledge of environmental effects assessments in Canada, and an understanding of how effects of project-related developments on ecological values should be investigated and reported.
  • The ability to lead or manage multiple projects at a time and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong work ethic with the desire to achieve the best possible products within the time and budgets allotted.
  • Eligibility to register as PAg, RPBio,  or RPF or other professional designation.

 Responsibilities:

  • Participate in ecology components of environmental assessments, and consult on technical and regulatory issues on large-scale and complex ecology programs;
  • Prepare reports, including baseline reports and environmental assessments, in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Prepare management plans for the ecological components of large mining projects;
  • Undertake terrestrial ecosystem inventory and mapping related projects;
  • Prepare proposals, project reports, and take on project management; and
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff
