The Database Administrator ensures the continuous integrity, performance and capacity of the databases and related data stores of the organization. The position involves both hands on management, and strategic planning and design for the database environment.  Designing and implementing effective and standard security methods; practical capacity planning approaches; and integrated application design are fundamental components of the role. The position requires good team working skills in that working with staff that deploys internal and external business solutions is paramount. The development aspects of the role include creating test platforms, stored procedures and other database related programming methods as required.

Key Requirements

  • Monitoring of production and development/QA environments
  • Design database schemata based on data modeling of business requirements and entities
  • Write new stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, constraints
  • Code review SQL code and SSIS packages to ensure optimal performance and adherence to the best practices
  • Create deployment and rollback scripts for all database objects manually or auto-generated
  • Maintain database design documentation and metadata
  • OLTP and OLAP Data Modeling
  • Ability to work occasionally or on consistent basis in a 24/7 production environment, monitoring and troubleshooting the database environments


  • Post-secondary education in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5 years’ experience in MS SQL Server database administration
  • Experience in distributed, multi-tiered application development in a team environment
  • Experience working with LINUX/Windows mixed environments would be an asset.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL Server 2008/2012, SQL Server Integration Services, Data Warehouse, Reporting Services, Transact-SQL
  • Solid understanding of Database Performance Tuning,  Data Migration, High Availability Solutions, Log/Backup/Recovery
  • Troubleshoot and implement SSIS jobs.
  • Advanced knowledge of application tuning, database design changes, data migrations, application migrations, major database upgrade, and general database application designs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Agile methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Exposure to Scribe, CRM, Team Foundation Service and Zabbix would be an asset
