Senior Software Engineer

Amplify is re-imagining the way teachers teach and students learn. We enable teachers to manage whole classrooms and, at the same time, empower them to offer more personalized instruction, so that students become more active, engaged learners.

Amplify is comprised of three divisions. The Amplify Insight and Amplify Learning divisions grew out of the work of Wireless Generation and, as a complement, the Amplify Access division was created shortly thereafter.

Description

Amplify Insight is harnessing the power of data and coaching to raise the level of performance of districts, teachers and students. Insight provides districts and states across the country with educational assessment and analytic solutions that measure student learning and drive personalized instruction. By making data actionable in real time, our Insight products and services help teachers and administrators assess student progress, adapt to student needs and accelerate student learning.

Senior Software Engineers help lead the effort to build out our platform and products. Typical projects include rich interactive web and mobile applications, large data systems, web-based reporting and data analysis systems. As part of a cross-functional software team, you’ll be commissioned with delivering new and innovative platforms, products, and/or product functions for schools, districts, and states across the country.
 

Responsibilities of Senior Software Engineer:

• Develop, test, and maintain robust, scalable, high-quality software for our technology platform and products
• Contribute to continuous improvement of software development best practices in the areas of coding tools, languages and APIs, as well as software design and development processes
• Participate in requirements gathering and functional specification activities, providing feedback on implementation feasibility as well as navigable prototypes/mockups
• Other specific responsibilities vary by project area and experience, but may include technical leadership of a software project team

Basic Qualifications of Senior Software Engineer:

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Proven technical leadership experience in a professional environment, including ownership and delivery of a sizable product or product component
• Strong CS fundamentals (OO, algorithms, data structures)
• Experience with Object Oriented Programming, particularly in Java or Objective-C
• Fluency in at least one other OO or scripting language such as Ruby, Python, C++ or C#

Preferred Qualifications of Senior Software Engineer:

• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
• Significant open source contributions
• Experience with server-side Java technologies and major application servers
• Familiarity with UNIX tools
• Experience with JavaScript framework such as jQuery or Prototype
• Experience as a front-end web developer, producing professional websites and/or web applications
• Experience with mobile device browsers
