Nova Networks Inc. is growing and we are actively seeking a Network Monitoring Tools Administrator to join our team in Ottawa.

A little bit about the job: Our Tools team is an integral component of the overall effectiveness and efficiency of how we look after our clients.  They are responsible for identifying and providing the necessary tools to carry out solutions.  Some of the duties of the Network Monitoring Tools Administrator will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with multiple department within Nova to implement new software for monitoring, ticketing and reporting

  • Configuring the existing tools environment to commission new clients and new devices

  • Isolating performance issues with the environment

  • Developing automation/integration and evaluating new software as required

  • Developing monitoring templates/packages for new devices/applications as required

  • Report writing and documentation of procedures

  • Troubleshooting a variety of systems

A little bit about what we’re looking for in you (from a technical standpoint):

  • Experience with administration of SolarWinds monitoring tool and Microsoft Server

  • Experience with developing Python, Bash, SQL scripts and/or other scripting languages

  • Experience with managing virtual machines within a VMware ESX environment

  • Extensive networking knowledge (ports, subnets, routing protocols, etc…)

  • Hands-on experience using Zenoss, Netflow and/or Nagios

  • Experience with a variety of operating systems: Unix/Linux, Windows

More technical skills we’d like to see from you (these would be an asset)

  • Experience with other scripting languages such as Perl and PHP

  • Experience with monitoring protocols such as SNMP and WMI

  • Experience with APIs such as SOAP, REST XML-RPC, and JSON

  • Experience with other database technologies such as Zope and DB2

  • Experience with WebSphere, WebSphere MQ, JBOSS or JMX

  • Experience with Solaris 8/9/10

  • Experience with Cisco Technologies

  • French language skills– written and oral, would be an asset
