University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks an Associate Vice President, Alumni Programs in the Office of Institutional Advancement. The Associate Vice President (AVP), Alumni Programs is responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage the University’s 160,000, alumni in strengthening programs and providing tangible benefits to alumni and current students.
Serving as an ambassador, the AVP is charged with securing commitments from alumni to provide professional expertise and volunteer service; collaborating with colleagues in the administrative offices (including, but not limited to Admissions, Development, Career Services, Corporate Learning Solutions, College and University Partnerships, Student Support Services) and the Undergraduate and Graduate Schools to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advance the goals of the University; partnering with Development colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni giving; and serving as a liaison between the UMUC Alumni Association Board of Directors and the academic and administrative leadership. Reporting to the Vice President, Advancement the AVP is a senior member of the Advancement management team.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Required education and experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and eight (8) years of experience in alumni relations with demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and developing volunteer leadership. Preferred education and experience: Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout the University, alumni, other constituents and the public; the demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers; strong writing, planning and organizational skills; flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals; high professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information; ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines; experience with ADVANCE or a similar constituent database; and the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
