Production Supervisor
Reporting to the Production Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for coaching and directing hourly employees in a unionized production environment and meet business objectives by ensuring efficient and safe operations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader, highly motivated and capable of effectively managing employees while implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives to improve production efficiencies.
Responsibilities:

Schedules daily work assignments of direct reports in a timely and efficient manner ensuring completion of daily production priorities minimizing WIP and contributing to the Company’s sustainability efforts.

Ensures compliance of all Governmental and Johnson Matthey environmental, health & safety policies and procedures through daily inspections, monthly employee meetings and safe work practices.

Resolves all EH&S non-conformances that are reported, determined by audits and in-house inspections.

Develops and utilizes up-to-date work instructions to conduct all new employee, environmental, health, safety and procedural training.

In conjunction with Human Resources, ensures departmental compliance with Collective Agreement and all Company Policies and Procedures and where required, enforcing discipline.

Supervisory responsibility includes but is not limited to providing training, coaching, managing absences and resolving employee issues and concerns.

Actively seeks out opportunities for continuous improvement and makes recommendations to Production Manager; involved in implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

Participates in the development of the department budget and operates within budgeted labour, supply, repair and maintenance costs.

Handles the purchasing of departmental supplies and materials working with vendors to obtain quotations and places orders ensuring supplies required are available.

Handles the preparation of department for annual inventory.

Performs other job related tasks as required.
Qualifications for the Position:

Proven leadership ability demonstrated.

Minimum College diploma and high school chemistry. University degree in a technical or engineering field is considered a preference.

Experience in a Production Supervision is an asset.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate operational objectives, providing training, and resolving employee issues.

Experience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S and ISO.

Experience within a refinery, mining, metals, foundry or a chemical compounding plant a definite asset

Solid working knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety.

Excellent time management skills; able to prioritize work and ensure task completion

Good computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to work rotating shifts and weekend.
