Our Team:

Powerplay is the group at Synacor that's responsible for building, customizing, deploying, and maintaining the next generation multi-device TV everywhere product. We operate in agile teams that emphasize autonomy, learning and collaboration. Our teams are full-stack, so you'll have the chance to work with a wide range of technologies. We organize ourselves using an Agile approach, and place a high value on continuous improvement. We ship a lot of code, and are constantly iterating to figure out how to deliver products faster and with higher quality.

We’ve spent the last year in research, design and user testing phases, and truly believe that this product will be a game changer. Among other things, it allows consumers access to all of the TV content they love, on any device, from all of the sources they already subscribe to.

You will work with a talented and forward thinking team of architects, engineers, designers and product managers who are all passionate about this product and it’s success.

The Role:

In Powerplay, we create the core Powerplay product that allows our customers to watch TV on mobile devices. We use GruntJS as our core tool on the FE for development. We delve into a lot of CSS, HTML, and JavaScript, with a customized Backbone.js app, leaning on Scala templates in the PlayFramework in Java. We value a test early-test often approach, using multiple tools:  unit tests in Jasmine, automated acceptance testing using Cucumber, web services testing using JMeter, load/performance testing, x-browser and device testing via SauceLabs, with a mix of home-grown and open-source resources necessary to cover our broad, and deep, technology stack.

About You:

We are looking for someone who lives, eats and breathes test automation, has strong leadership skills, and truly wants to play a primary role in delivering high quality mobile and desktop products.

  • Demonstrated experience in QA
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming
  • Proficiency with at least one OO language, preferably Java
  • Proven experience developing test automation for mobile and desktop applications
  • Great communication and team collaboration skills
  • A willingness to participate in team activities such as group code reviews, pair programming, and Agile retrospectives
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git
  • Experience in Unix/Linux use, shell scripting, python, php is a plus
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
