I. Position Summary:

Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident care tasks within the scope of practice from Certified Nursing Assistant.

II. Position Relationships:

A. Responsible to:  Lead Administrative Coordinator, Administrative
      Coordinator, Unit Director and Charge Nurse

B. Workers Supervised:  None

C. Interrelationships:  The Certified Nursing Assistant has frequent
interaction with residents, families, visitors, physicians, nursing staff and hospital personnel.

III. Responsibilities and Authorities:

A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE Advantage” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

E. Practice courteous interpersonal skills and utilize the established channels of communication.

F. Identify and participate in opportunities for growth and development.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

A. Perform specific resident care functions to the following patient age categories (circle all that may apply):

1. newborn/infant  2. pediatric (0-16 y.o.)
3. adolescent   4. adult
5. geriatric

B. Collects and documents vital signs and baseline data; reports patient status changes to R.N.

C. Provides and assists patient with basic needs and activities of daily living.

D. Maintains a clean and safe patient care and hospital environment.

E. Reinforces and assists in carrying out patient plan of care.

F. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills.

G. Prioritizes and implements patient care, demonstrating effective time management.

H. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills; documents and reports clearly.

I. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary; follow channels of communication.

J. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities.

K. Equipment is treated well and kept clean.

L. Attend unit meetings.

V. Qualifications:

A. Education:

High school graduate or equivalent.  The Nursing Assistant will be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry and have current acute care experience.  BLS Certification.


B. Job Knowledge:

The certified nursing assistant must have the ability to follow instructions precisely.

VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

A. Ability to perform:

1. Heavy lifting
2. Sustained standing and walking
3. Work under stress
4. Varied work hours and shifts

B. May encounter exposure to infectious diseases.
