Job Description

I. Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Unit Director or designee, assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing unit by performing clerical, receptionist, coordination duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.

II. Position Relationships:

A. Responsible to:  Divisional Nursing Director, Unit Director and
      Charge Nurse

B. Workers Supervised: None

C. Interrelationships:  Works closely with patients, families, visitors,
and health care team.  Frequent interaction with unit staff and other hospital.

III. Responsibilities and Authorities:

A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.

B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE Advantage” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

E. Assure appropriate transcription of physician orders and maintenance of the medical record.

F. Accountable for maintaining a neat and organized working environment.

G. Receive and relay communications among members of the health care team.

H. Coordinate activities of the health care team and visitors on the unit.

IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:

A. Transcribes physician’s orders in a timely and accurate manner.

B. Completes and maintains patient records in an organized and timely manner.

C. Assumes responsibility for operating and maintaining nurses’ station equipment.

D. Utilized courteous, effective, and timely communication skills at all times when dealing with other members of the health care team, patients, family members or visitors.

E. Effectively requisitions and manages supplies and equipment within the nursing unit as required.

F. Practices effective time management.

G. Coordinates and assists in the maintenance of their work environment of the unit.

H. Documentation is neat and legible.

I. Practices effective interpersonal skills and utilize established channels of communication.

J. Participates in Performance Improvement.

V. Qualifications:

A. Education:

High School graduate or equivalent. 

B. Training and Experience:

1. BLS Certification.
2. Must successfully complete computer training.
3. Knowledge of some medical and technical terminology.
4. Hospital Orientation within 3 months of hire.
5. NICU Unit Clerk competencies within 3 months of hire.

VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

A. Ability to perform:

1, Heavy Lifting
2. Sustained standing and walking
3. Work under stress

B. Will encounter exposure to infectious diseases.
