General Responsibilities:

The Receiving & Shipping Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, training, mentoring, and coaching to the Receiving & Shipping employees and to ensure a safe working environment.  For the Receiving Warehouse, the Supervisor is responsible to ensure accurate receipt of all received materials, manage the outside warehouse, confirm that the production lines in the Assembly Dept. have the proper parts delivered to the lines as needed, and determine whether to store in-coming components directly in the Receiving Warehouse or in the off-site warehouse.  For the Shipping Warehouse, the Supervisor is responsible to ensure accuracy and timeliness for all outbound shipments and order fulfillment.


Examples of Typical Activities:

  • Provide leadership, training, mentoring, and coaching to the Receiving & Shipping Employees.
  • Manage administrative activities such as salary reviews, vacation requests, attendance, etc.
  • Review pending issues with the Shipping Coordinators including:
    • Product issues
    • Customer service issues
    • Customer requirements
    • Productivity issues
  • Maintain open communications daily with Assembly to coordinate customer order needs with production capabilities.
  • Prepare and present  a variety of regular reports:
    • Communicate shipping needs to the Master Scheduler and Assembly Dept.
    • Customer service report to monitor department productivity and ability to meet customer needs.
  • Investigate productivity and customer service issues.
  • Purchase operating supplies such as pallets and stretch wrap.
  • Maintain department budget for both Receiving Dept. and Shipping Dept.
  • Support projects that have an impact on the Receiving Dept. and the Shipping Department.
  • Conduct Forklift Training Classes (PIT).
  • Ensure safety for both the Receiving Warehouse and the Shipping Warehouse.
    • Participate in the bi-weekly hourly Safety Committee.
    • Audit to confirm that safety training & procedures are being followed.
  • Manage labor daily to achieve plant efficiency goal and plant productivity goal.
  • Manage fleet of in-house fork lifts and tractors (for CDL licensed drivers).
  • Provide forecasts for Senior Management of shipping activity.
  • Coach 5S champions for each zone in both the Receiving Warehouse and the Shipping Warehouse in order to progress through the 5S process.
  • Identify and implement cost savings opportunities.
  • Manage live loads that come in for unloads.  Coordinate shipments with the trucking companies.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to administer No Fault Attendance Policy, participate in the interviewing process to hire new people, investigate any injuries to determine root cause, and hold people accountable to their jobs (issuing disciplines, suspensions, and terminations as necessary).


Required Experience

A minimum of 3- 5 years of relevant supervisory experience in both a receiving and shipping warehouse environment.


Required Technical Competencies

  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Computer Skills
    • Understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (BAAN preferred)
    • Familiarity with scanners (scanning bar codes), inventory transactions, and FIFO
    • Microsoft Office – concentration on Excel
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations
  • Understanding of Forklift training and safety requirements
    • Ability to become a fork lift trainer
    • Familiarity with different types of fork lifts (sit down, stand up, etc.)
  • Understanding of Inventory Management
    • Cycle Counting
