Position Summary

The Subsea Engineer II is a key position in the Maintenance department being responsible for the efficient maintenance, monitoring and operation of the Subsea systems equipment.

The Subsea Engineer has a direct reporting path to the Rig Maintenance Supervisor.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Maintain Subsea systems equipment such that operation plan goals are met for mechanical downtime and repair and maintenance by:
  • Proper maintenance of equipment in accordance with the Company’s preventive maintenance program.
  • Timely repair.
  1. Request, through supervisor, needed supplies and parts to maintain adequate inventory in area of responsibility.
  2. Be completely knowledgeable of the Company checklists and procedures.
  3. Establish system for permanent documentation of work performed on equipment in area of responsibility and record equipment condition daily.
  4. Ensure that no welding is done on Subsea equipment.
  5. Eliminate any waste and establish a cost conscious planning effort within area of responsibility.
  6. Review all operational and technical bulletins and implement all directives as required.
  7. Perform or assist in the performance of tasks or projects as may be assigned by supervisor.
  8. Maintain a good working relationship with supervisor and other members of the rig crew.
  9. Maintain the operational integrity all Subsea related equipment.

 

Safety Accountabilities

1.   Seasoned functional competence as a departmental manager in a major operating area of a drill rig with discretionary authority to determine what results should be targeted.

Consistently a role model to all hands on the drill rig.

Responsible for the resourcing, management, short, medium and long-term safety performance of the department.

A continual improvement focus on rig safety

5.   Typically takes a business perspective in actively working with the rig management team to resolve major safety issues (e.g. compliance, safety breaches, engineering solutions etc.).

Contributes to safety initiatives, policy implementation and decisions at departmental level.

Manages overall safety performance and improvement plans across their work areas.

 Takes into account 3rd party presence and regulatory authority requirements

Participates in selective routine safety activities e.g. audits with crews and resource people. 

Ensures clear understanding of statutory responsibility for safety within the area by keeping up to date with legislation. 

Develops improvement plans for safety to tackle any shortcomings for safety on the rig.

Sponsors and leads safety work teams, initiatives, committees, campaigns, meetings, etc.

13. Seeks to improve safety standards for a department or operating area by foreseeing potential risks and developing upfront prevention strategies.

Puts measures in place to minimize risks and improve the overall work environment. 

      Ensures all incidents are reported and leads incident investigations in any relevant section of the rig, in accordance with company procedure.

Trains or coaches others on safety issues and conducts or co-ordinates safety tool box meetings etc.

17.  Reviews results from production tests or changes in work procedures carefully to ensure there are no impacts to work area.

Monitors accident/incident data and rehabilitation processes and takes action to improve safety conditions.

 

Minimum Education and Skill Requirements

  1. Minimum 6 years experience with an Associates Degree or diploma from accredited Technical School, military mechanical training or completion of appropriate apprenticeship or a minimum 6 years Subsea field experience in oil and gas environment, without a degree.
  2. Minimum 7 years of related experience with Technical skills such as: calibration, hydraulics, pneumatics and comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas process equipment.
  3. Must have the ability to interpret hydraulic schematic drawings (to component level) troubleshoot faults remotely - without being at equipment.
  4. Ability to communicate to other technical people in verbally and in writing.
  5. The ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. 

 

Physical Requirements

  1. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  2. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  3. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling are required frequently.  Requires lifting and substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  4. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  5. The worker is subject to environmental conditions. The worker is subject to extreme heat which may include temperatures above 100° for periods of more than one hour.
