Description

Overview:

The Sense and Warn (S&W) command and control (C2) Technician is the C2 system administrative level expert who provides set-up/tear-down and maintenance functions in order to support operations, relocation, and reinstallation of S&W C2 components.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Report to the S&W Site Lead.
  • Set up/operate/maintain wireless S&W Local Area and Wide Area Networks.
  • Perform S&W Network fault isolation and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot S&W system architecture.
  • Verify S&W system components and associated items are on-hand and serviceable.
  • Maintain item/component accountability; any identified shortages (to include damage) shall be reported to the site lead and appropriate Government POC.
  • Set-up/teardown and establish operations IAW applicable technical manuals.
  • Follow Technical Manual safety procedures when operating/maintaining the equipment.
  • Conduct install/de-install of S&W C2 systems in preparation for packaging and shipment of equipment as required.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services on the S&W network.
  • Requisition, receive, maintain, and inventory of repair parts in clean, serviceable condition.
  • Perform field and sustainment level troubleshooting and maintenance IAW applicable technical manuals.
  • Ensure equipment faults are identified and corrected.
  • Record and report maintenance actions using Government provided equipment accounting procedures.
  • Fill in as an S&W C2 Operator as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:             

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

 

Education/Knowledge and/or Experience: 

  • Electronic or Network Technical training beyond high school.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for experience where applicable.
  • 7 years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Graduate of the any military command and control systems administrator course, networking course, Advanced or Warrant Officer Command and Control systems administrator courses are desired.
  •  Experience maintaining the Sense and Warn Command and Control, WAVES, and Network systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable, experienced, prepared and capable of performing administration, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and employment of wireless and local area networks and command and control systems.
  • Good written communication skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software suite.

Security Clearance:                 

SECRET Level Required

  • Must have a current US Government SECRET Personnel Security Clearance or be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered Investigation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must also be able to maintain a US Government SECRET clearance.
  • Medical Clearance: Must be able to obtain a DoS Class 1 medical clearance prior to employment.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee must be able to stand, walk and sit for a prolonged period of time; use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close and distant vision. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Medical conditions or physical impediments may disqualify candidates from overseas work where comprehensive medical care may be limited or unavailable, or where the condition or impediment would put the individual at unacceptable risk. Duties may be performed in an active combat zone where the employee would be required to seek shelter. There may be stress, psychological and physical hardships, and the possibility of living in field conditions associated with this position.

 

Travel:

Periodic overseas travel will be required in high-threat areas and in multiple locations. Domestic travel may be required for training and program coordination.

 

Overseas Work Environment: Full-time, usually under hazardous conditions when deployed in a theater of operations. Personnel meeting the provisions of Department of State Standardized Regulations, Chapter 650 – Danger Pay Allowance, and Chapter 350 – Hardship Pay, are eligible to receive danger and hardship pay up to the prevailing percentages over base compensation.

 

Living Environment:

When deployed, lodging, meals, medical and basic life support services will be provided while in a theater of operations, as well as the prevailing per diem rate for incidental expenses (I&E).  Living conditions are basic / challenging with sparse amenities which include sharing a tent or plywood structured living quarter with other civilian or military personnel with shared bathrooms within close proximity and no cooking facilities other than microwaves.

 

Work Location: DOS Chief of Mission sites OCONUS. Any stateside work location will likely be in DOS Annexes in Arlington and/or Springfield, VA.
