Job Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external customers to understand current and future requirements and develop scalable and cost efficient solutions
  •  Research and document new products and tools; interact with vendors on ongoing basis for the purpose of investigating new equipment and    services
  •  Performs complex engineering, design, implementation and maintenance tasks on the LAN and/or WAN
  •  Research, evaluate, and approve hardware and software solutions for complex problems; work with third party vendors to drive product roadmaps and feature enhancements
  •  Makes recommendations to management on desirable additions and development
  •  Continually plan for the expansion of the Layered Tech network
  • Assist troubleshooting of highly complex network problems and acts as a high level escalation point for Network Engineers

 

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in engineering datacenter and IP backbone networks
  •  In-depth experience with protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, and other service provider level protocols.
  •  Experience in services such as L2VPN, L3VPN and VPLS etc.
  •  Excellent knowledge of Cisco IOS
  •  Excellent knowledge of servers, switches, routers, and various network services
  •  Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, strong team player who enjoys a fast paced atmosphere
  •  Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities, commitments and projects
  •  Ability to influence and drive consensus on multiple technical views Critical Skills
  • Previous Networking support experience in enterprise, IT or service provider environment
  •  Experience diagnosing complex issues through packet capture analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, snoop, Sniffer Pro)
  •  Hands on experience including but not limited to:
  • Cisco routers and switches
  •  Firewall technologies (Cisco ASAs)
  •  Server Load balancer configurations and support (F5, Cisco ACE, Foundry Server Iron etc.)
  •  Security technologies
  •  Virtual and physical security technologies (ie. Cisco ACE/FWSM, ASA, IP tables, ACL etc.)
  •  Intrusion detection support and analysis
  •  A commitment to delivering a superior client experience through direct interaction with clients during support and change management
  •  Ability to quickly adapt to advancing technologies and procedural changes
  • Proven incident and problem solving (troubleshooting) skills with an emphasis on a timely resolution
  •  Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other technologists and business partners to maintain high service levels in a demanding environment
  •  Ability to work well in team environment
  •   Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills
  •  Experience with Shell/Perl/Expect/Powershell and/or other scripting languages and/or web development technologies like HTML, XML, Java
  • Familiarization with SAS-70, ITIL and PCI guidelines and practices
  •  Technical certifications in areas of expertise (CCNP, CCDP, CCIE, CCDE)
  •  Project Management experience
  • Self-motivated, directed and passionate
  •  Ability to learn very quickly in a fast paced environment

 

 

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in related fields / or 5 years’ experience in related field
  • 5+ years’ experience working in IT Service Provider industry at enterprise level
  • ITIL Foundation Training and/or Certification  CCNP certification is required  CCIE certification is highly desired
