Controller – Canada

The candidate is reporting to the Zetec VP-Finance & IT (Based in Seattle), secondarily to zNDT Business VP & GM.      

FUNCTION SUMMARY       

As the most senior financial leader in the Quebec City-based zNDT Division of Zetec, the Controller leads a small Finance team to deliver all financial and governance support for zNDT.  This position is expected to be an influential member of the zNDT Leadership Team, contributing to effective business operations and overall business results.  zNDT is a world technology leader that enables its customers to non-destructively test materials in high-value, sensitive and/or challenging situations.  This requires a diverse product mix; including electronic devices, robotics, consumables, software, consulting, and training in addition to performing custom and new product development.  The Controller is expected to bring a business perspective to the role and to work closely with the entire zNDT leadership team.  This position is responsible for timely and accurate accounting, internal controls and reporting in a highly diversified low volume manufacturing and engineering business with primary facilities in Quebec City and small sales and servicing operations in France.
 

ESSENTIAL TASKS & DUTIES

 

As a member of zNDT’s Leadership Team:

  • Lead and/or perform all planning, forecasting, analysis and performance reporting to assure functional leaders are well supported, operations are effective and decisions are sound.
  • Serve as the key liaison with Zetec executives and parent organization.  Is the ‘go to’ advisor and assistant to the Business’s VP and GM.
  • Support annual Strategic Planning.
  • Generate materials for Division business reviews and participation in Zetec reviews.
  • Provide metrics and measures for KPIs and incentive plans.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Canadian and European legal, tax and compliance needs.

 

As the senior financial leader:

  • Proactively self-manage with limited oversight from Seattle-based reporting relationship.
  • Lead and develop the Finance team responsible for transaction processing and reporting.
  • Assure parent planning and reporting requirements are met.
  • Oversee integrity of inventories, product costing and financial estimates.  Lead or orchestrate all cost allocation decisions.
  • Establish and maintain a ‘continuous improvement’ momentum resulting in improved business results and a more effective Finance team.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure the control system of accounting policies and methods in accordance with US GAAP and Canadian laws.
  • Represent zNDT and Zetec’s Canadian and European interests with government organizations.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Fluent in both French and English.
  • Significant experience liaising with US and other international affiliates and customers.
  • Eligible to work in Quebec and travel internationally.
  • Ability to support US GAAP and maintain a Sarbanes Oxley compliant organization.
  • General knowledge and experience overseeing compliance with tax and other government authorities.
  • Experience with costing and revenue recognition in a manufacturing and/or engineering project business.
  • Experience leading use of a comprehensive ERP system (IFS) (asset)
  • Career mobility to/from US (asset)

 

Education Minimum Requirements/Equivalent

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics or finance or an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting/Finance.
  • Chartered Accountant or CPA (asset).

 

Professional experience

  • At least 8 years’ experience leading financial organizations in complex manufacturing and/or engineering services environments, utilizing ERP systems.
  • Experience in an accounting firm (asset)
