About the Location: Calgary, Alberta is home to NOVA Chemicals’ global research and development headquarters, and home to world-class scientific achievements. Our technology center is the largest in Canada and features two locations: Centre for Applied Research and Centre for Performance Applications. Our state-of-the-art facilities support our technological advancements in the polyolefins and olefins fields.


Responsibilities: • The role requires a strong background in constructing and operating high pressure natural gas test rigs at the TCPL Gas Dynamic Test Facility in Didsbury, AB.
• This position will reside in the Fluid Dynamics team at the NOVA Chemicals Research & Technology Centre located in Calgary, Alberta which will require frequent travel to the test facility in Didsbury, AB throughout the year.
• The successful candidate will provide research support to TransCanada Pipelines Limited through an ongoing research program related to transmission pipelines and related facilities, similarly support to the NOVA Chemicals pipeline system, ethylene and polyethylene manufacturing units is also anticipated.
• This is a challenging position with a primary focus on operating various test rigs which include above ground piping systems, conventional and specialized instrumentation, static and high speed dynamic measurements, gas flow metering, and respective data acquisition systems.
• The candidate will also be expected to select appropriate instrumentation with respective ranges and accuracy for the test rigs.
• Operation of various facility equipment including; gas chromatographs, pumps and compressors, calibration equipment such as gravimetric flow metering, power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic driven equipment, gas cylinder handling, gravimetric gas calibration facility, fork lift, and other facility auxiliary systems is anticipated.
• Development of appropriate data acquisition setup specific to each test program, calibration of temperature, flow and static and dynamic pressure transducers.
• Data processing in time and frequency domains, data analysis, plotting of results and contributing to project updates in the form of presentations to client and project teams.
• Participate in technical report writing and technical papers.


Qualifications: • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technologies.
• Knowledge of experimental methods, instrumentation, data acquisition and data processing
• Results orientated with an ability to work independently as well as effectively in a team environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
