About the Location: The Joffre Manufacturing petrochemical complex is located approximately 20 minutes east of Red Deer, Alberta. Red Deer is situated midway between Alberta’s two largest cities – Calgary and Edmonton – and has the amenities of a big city with a smaller population.
Each year our three ethylene facilities produce more than six billion pounds of ethylene, and our two polyethylene facilities produce more than two billion pounds of polyethylene.

Responsibilities: The Team Leader, Technical Services role provides effective people leadership to a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, technologists, and coordinators to meet defined project metrics in the execution of engineering projects (investigation, development, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and close out).
This role is responsible for portfolio management which includes idea intake, assessment of merit and quality, cost allocation development, and sharing with internal and external stakeholders.
The successful incumbent will work to integrate the projects into the operation organization and support manufacturing objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
• Driving outstanding results in Responsible Care® (occupational and process safety, health, environment, occupational hygiene and loss prevention) through demonstrated leadership.
• Performing continuous analysis and monitoring of portfolio components to identify issues, risks, and opportunities for improvement as per Project Management Institute (PMI) definitions.
• Coaching team members on Project Management best practices, such as those contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
• Developing and effectively managing capital and expense budgets.
• Providing leadership in continuous improvement and change initiatives to drive improvement to business results.
• Managing the interface between various business units, site groups, and cross organizational stakeholders.
• Challenging the status quo and seek continuous improvement in the area of work flow processes, project effectiveness and people effectiveness.
• Providing technical discipline leadership to foster collaboration, leveraging, and skill development within the Joffre site.

Qualifications: • University degree in a technical field or equivalent coupled with 12+ years of varied and increasing level of responsibility and experience in a manufacturing environment.
• A professional designation (P.Eng) is required to fulfill the permit to practice responsibilities for the practice of engineering in Alberta.
• Formal or informal leadership experience with a demonstrated track record to achieve results, ability to drive step change improvement and influence others.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated excellence in people leadership and communication that fosters accountability, ownership, and motivation of staff.
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a team environment, relating well with people inside and outside the organization.
• Ability to internalize values, mission, and vision of the business in order to externalize them to the organization.
• Ability to balance strategic and tactical thinking taking into account the big picture, both short and long term.
