About the Location: The NOVA Chemicals Joffre site is located in Central Alberta, 20 km East of Alberta’s third largest city (pop 100,000) – Red Deer. The area provides a wealth of recreational facilities and opportunities to enjoy a broad variety of physical or social activities. Red Deer is a multi-cultural city with a vibrant visual and performing arts community along with both competitive and recreational sports opportunities. Employees and contractors who work at the Joffre site have a wide variety of living options available to them. While the city of Red Deer is home for the majority of our employees, we have a significant population who have chosen lifestyles in near-by communities such as Lacombe and Stettler, recreational towns such as Sylvan Lake and Bentley, any number of small hamlets or the rural option of an acreage or farm. Educational options for school age children are broad and advanced education programs are available from facilities such as Red Deer College. Responsibilities: Reporting to the NOVA Chemicals Construction Team Leader, the Construction Manager works as a key member of a coordinated Construction Team to deliver successful execution of capital construction projects as measured by Safety, Quality, Cost and Schedule. Assigned specific projects to execute – the projects will vary widely cost and complexity. Adherence to NOVA Chemicals Construction management work practices and working within the Technical Services department to aid continuous improvement.

The main focus of the Technical Services Construction Manager is to:
- Hold contractor(s) accountable to deliver on contract terms and conditions
- Communicate to areas of impact
- Provide construction input during project development with respect to constructability (front end loading) and general project success.
- Work effectively with the project teams and initiate changes and or additions in Construction Work Packages to drive success
- Ensure that Safety and Responsible Care objectives are achieved for the construction phase of all projects.

Additional responsibilities include:
Administration and Project Development
- Develop Construction Implementation Plans (Review and approve Requests for Information, Requests for Change Orders, and Construction Start Agreements)
- Review and recommend award of contractor estimates.
- Approve contractor time, materials and equipment on reimbursable contracts.
- Management of construction schedules in accordance with Technical Services Construction Workflow.
- Work with the project team to define and achieve project objectives.
- Act as the single point of contact for contractors while work is being done in the field.

QA/QC
- Coordinate and monitor the contractor Inspection Test Plans.
- Ensure non-conformances are resolved.
- Ensure turnover punch lists are generated and deficiencies are completed.

Leadership
- Act as project Designated Site Representative.
- Monitor contractor safety programs.
- Manage construction costs and schedule.
- Lead Technical Services construction during turnarounds.
- Review and approve contractor safe work plans.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a degree or certificate in construction management or have a Red Seal trade certificate, plus 8-15 years of related experience.

- Minimum 6-8 years construction management experience in an industrial environment
- Experience in bid evaluation, contract development, and contract management
- Demonstrated planning/scheduling skills
-- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, standards and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Proven ability to achieve results through others
- Effective time management skills
- Exhibited teamwork style and skills
