JOB TITLE:   VMware and Storage System Engineer

DEPARTMENT:  Information Technology

JOB SUMMARY

This position is an administrative role within the Global Server and Storage team which is responsible for daily support, design and analysis of highly virtualized server environment including, but not limited to, VmWare ESX and V-Sphere environments, Exchange 2003-2010, and EMC Clarion Centerra product families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for administering and performing the tasks required supporting the operation of CooperVision's global server and storage environment, as well as the applications they support.  This includes support of all regional data centers as well.
  • Aid in the implementation and support of Microsoft systems including Server OS, SMS, ADS, Exchange, SQL and the associated applications they support.
  • Administers maintenance and installation of equipment and system/application software upgrades.
  • Support the global services for authentication and messaging systems, working with regional and global resources in EU and AU.
  • Assist in implementing and supporting office productivity tools to enhance communication and collaboration between local and regional facilities.
  • Maintain systems procedures, processes and documentation that comply with all regulatory requirements to ensure compliance
  • Support file structures and user access to all user data
  • Maintain cutting edge awareness of technological developments in computer hardware and software systems.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Daily support of highly virtualized global environment through the use of VmWare ESX and VSphere environments, as well as associated replication technologies.
  • Daily interaction and collaboration with other technology verticals regarding project planning, troubleshooting initiatives, and day-to-day operations.
  • Daily support and performance analysis of EMC storage platforms including, but not limited to, Symetrix, Clarion and Centerra product families.
  • Daily support and configuration of server and application backup and restore where required.
  • Microsoft Exchange eMail messaging systems.
  • Global active directory services and related components.
  • Participation in global on-call rotation including timely escalation of un-resolved outages.
  • Afterhours and weekend work is required on a regular basis for planned maintenance exercises.
  • 24 x 7 support of server and storage environment across both physical and virtual platforms.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Microsoft Server 2003/2008 platforms configuration and troubleshooting, Microsoft Exchange administration, VMware ESX/V-Sphere, IP, HP hardware configuration and troubleshooting, backup job configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop and other end user environments a must.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • General office environment.
  • Exposure to manufacturing and distribution environments for the purpose of managing or training in hardware and software applications.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • MS, VMware, EMC certifications a plus

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years of experience in business computing environment, preferably server and storage focused.
