Reporting to the Vice President of Public Advocacy and Strategic Communications, the Deputy Director for Social Media collaborates with Marketing and Communications (M & C) colleagues and key stakeholders to develop and manage the implementation of the organization’s social media strategy.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (included but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain the USF social media strategy, refining as necessary in coordination with stakeholders to ensure its ongoing effectiveness in support of organizational objectives
  • Assist in development and monitoring of policies and guidelines to govern USF social media usage and practices
  • Support adoption of relevant social media techniques across all departments
  • Supervise the Senior Officer responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of social media properties, messaging and community management
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Public Advocacy and Strategic Communications on messaging, content and tone for social media in the voice of USF and its CEO & President and support efforts to position USF CEO as a primary online voice/presence for USF in social media.
  • Plan and implement social media campaigns in support of USF's signature campaigns and varied departmental objectives (e.g., donor acquisition, constituent engagement, revenue generation, etc.)
  • Assist other departments in strategizing, defining and implementing social media projects to support their goals
  • Monitor trends in online community tools, trends and applications and communicate developments internally
  • Represent the U.S. Fund at industry events as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced knowledge and usage of social media platforms and how they can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Demonstrated track record working as a change agent to successfully lead organizations through the adoption of new ways of working
  • Strong project management, organizational and team leadership skills with deep experience leading projects and cross-functional teams to success
  • A proven track record of effectively managing staff
  • A savvy communicator with the ability to organize and present information in clear and persuasive formats, both verbally and in writing
  • Superb relationship building, networking and interpersonal skills. Must also have a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration with a demonstrated ability to build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and be willing to work extended hours during emergencies and peak fundraising periods
  • Basic knowledge of international development issues and non-profit organizations highly desirable
