The Role
The Toolbox web site is a growing part of the diagnostic system used by Tesla Service technicians, world-wide, to diagnose problems, perform maintenance, and download firmware.  The website provides authentication, software and data updates, and an interface to our diagnostic database.  The diagnostic database is a collaborative crowd-sourced knowledge-base of vehicle issues and most-likely service items in real time.  The web server also provides database service to the laptop application for data gathering and analysis. 
You will use your wide variety of skills to improve the Toolbox web application and REST APIs to provide diagnostic information to technicians, sales and telephone support representatives, log service procedures performed, integrate with the Service Repair Order system to track vehicle issues, provide vehicle repair reports to the vehicle reliability and quality assurance groups, improve usability and performance of the web views of repair sessions and vehicle knowledge base.
  • B.S. or higher studies in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Strong JavaScript programming skills (AMD/Require.js preferred)
  • Strong Linux Skills
  • Experience with modern HTML5 web architecture and development practices
  • Experience with Python Web framework(s) (Pyramid preferred, Django ok)
  • Experience with software development methodology: source code control, bug tracking, etc.
  • Experience with databases, (PostgreSQL preferred, MySQL ok)
  • Experience with database replication, db administration.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced start-up environment
Desired Experience:
  • Experience with full web stack development (Chef+Fabric preferred, Salt or equivalent)
  • Experience with Bootstrap (Compass/Foundation ok)
  • Experience setting up RESTful interfaces
  • Experience with database ORMs (Projex ORB preferred, SQLAlchemy, Storm, Django Models, ok)
  • Experience with CSS Pre-compilers (SASS preferred, LESS ok)
  • Experience debugging client-side issues with firebug, web developer and similar tools.
  • Experience with Internationalization/Localization
