Devops/Automation Engineer

Collective is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. Our ideal candidate will have experience with a wide range of technologies spanning systems and development, highlighted by strong knowledge of Linux, proficiency in ruby, and experience with puppet.

In this strategic, broadly focused role you will work with software developers, system administrators, and operations engineers to automate and scale our infrastructure and applications into multiple data centers throughout the country. You will work with cutting edge technology that receives hundreds of thousands of HTTP requests per second and makes hundreds of billions of predictions about user behavior each day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create puppet manifests, modules, custom facts, parsers, etc.
  • Collaborate with developers to design and implement secure and scalable platforms
  • Write scripts to build, maintain, monitor, and deploy systems and applications
  • Design system and service architecture
  • Implement security initiatives like logging, centralized authentication, firewalls, etc.
  • Troubleshoot problems when it is unclear whether it's an application or system issue
  • Assist Linux system administrators and operations engineers with escalations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of Linux architecture, system design, and administration
  • Proficient in shell scripting and ruby
  • Good understanding of puppet
  • Good understanding of networking (TCP/IP, subnetting, etc.)
  • Good understanding of DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, NTP, and DHCP

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience with python and/or perl
  • Experience with SSL and other strategies for securing communication
  • Experience with Apache, Tomcat, nginx, haproxy, or similar servers
  • Experience with AWS, VMware, vagrant, or other virtualization/cloud solutions
  • Experience with git or other version control systems
  • Experience with Jenkins or other build and continuous integration systems
  • Experience with hadoop and related projects
  • Experience with NAS, SAN, or iSCSI storage systems
  • Experience with ElasticSearch, Logstash, and Kibana or other logging systems
  • Experience with Nagios/Icinga, graphite, riemann, or other monitoring systems
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, or other web languages
  • Experience with Postgres, Redis, AeroSpike, Hbase, and other databases
