The purpose of the Senior .NET Engineer is to create amazing .NET web applications for Questrade. You’re experienced in developing highly performing and scalable web applications that meet the business requirements and provide a positive user experience to the end-user.
What’s it like working as a Senior .NET Engineer at Questrade?
As a Senior .NET Engineer, you will be involved with small to large scale projects through all stages of the software development life cycle from requirements gathering to implementation. You will collaborate with user interaction and design team, marketing, .NET and database developers to design and develop functionally rich, robust, user friendly web applications as defined by business requirements.

As a team player, you will be an active member in discussions of technical solutions for business problems as well as guide team members with technical problems and ensure best practices through code reviews and unit testing. You will actively lead projects in designing new application features and functionality, writing API's, scalability and maintainability improvements and act as a technological lead for other developers. You are a subject matter expert on projects assigned from business requirements to technical level and will collaborate with user Interface designers, Team lead, Database developers and .NET developers to ensure updates can be integrated into current structure of applications using: C#, ASP.NET, WCF, WPF, HTML, DHTML, CSS, JQuery, AJAX. You will setup new development environments and assist in setting up new applications and configurations on dev servers. You will also provide support and enhancements to existing production applications in a timely and accurate manner and maintain and enhance existing web applications to ensure all internal systems are integrated. In addition, you will perform testing of own code and address browser/platform compatibility issues. You’re proactive, and report to team leads on task status and potential issues.

In terms of your skills, you are able to develop and recommend system design from business requirements and have experience integrating with 3rd party/community based frameworks like enterprise library, telerik controls, log4net, nunit, nhibernate, etc. You have a deep understanding of SoA and Web Services (SOAP/REST) paired with prior experience with .NET Remoting, WCF and IIS. Strong skills in RDBMS, database design, and Transact-SQL with the ability to develop user interface, WCF services and back-end integration for web applications based on PSDs, storyboards and/or business requirements documentations are definite assets. Also, a strong understanding of object-oriented (OOP) development and Software development lifecycle (SDLC) with full experience dealing with browser compatibility issues combined are fundamental to success in this role. You can also code consistently and to documented standards and specifications. Previous experience with version control (e.g. SVN) and issue tracking (e.g. JIRA), developing apps for social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) and with Waterfall and Agile methodologies are among the key assets necessary for this role. Also, you have hands-on experience and proficient knowledge of the following:
Database server: Sybase, MS SQL Server 2005/2008, stored procedures, functions (PL/T-SQL).
System environment: Microsoft ASP.NET/.NET framework on Windows 2008 server.
Tools: Adobe CS5 product suite, MS Visual Studio, Subversion, JIRA.
In terms of your educations, you carry a degree, diploma or equivalent directly related work experience coupled with 7+ years’ experience writing, modifying, integrating and testing software code in Microsoft Visual Studio using the .NET framework. You also have7+ years’ experience with various programming languages such as C#, SQL, .NET, PHP, VB and area a .NET Microsoft Certified Professional. Your communication and time management skills are top notch. You are able to work in a fast-paced environment, are deadline oriented and have strong interpersonal skills to unite team members. You are curious and love to learn and are always willing to upgrade technical skills on an ongoing basis. You demonstrate a commitment to learning Questrade’s business and ongoing professional development and takes ownership of tasks and drives projects through to completion with senior team member supervision. With a hawk’s eye for detail, even under pressure, you see the big picture without losing sight of the little details for ensuring the highest standard of quality. You help develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with your team-mates and are always willing to lend a helping hand, keeping your service focus at the forefront of your mind. You have a strong work ethic, positive energy and have the unique ability to energize others.
