PEAK6 is seeking a Sr. Linux Systems Administrator / Engineer to join a growing team responsible for the deployment and administration of physical and virtual Linux servers and centralized storage.  This team is at the center of everything PEAK6 develops and releases. This role is a mix of R&D, system architecture, design and implementation, and operational support.  In 2014 the team will architect PEAK6’s next “big data” platform, will continue the virtualization initiative, and will bench mark next-generation flash storage platforms which will back-end a number of internally developed trading systems.


  • Plan, design, and manage the deployment of highly available Linux infrastructure and associated support services, including servers, storage, and infrastructure service
  • Support mission-critical trading applications in a fast-paced environment
  • Work with internal customers to understand functional requirements and make systems changes and hardware recommendations accordingly
  • Administer/manage a large VMware environment
  • Manage the Storage Area Network including allocating storage, LUN mapping, monitoring, and performance analysis
  • Evaluate the next generation of systems and storage solutions for inclusion in the 2015 systems roadmap
  • Performance optimize new and existing systems
  • Build automation into daily processes, including server builds, patching, and configuration analysis
  • Continue development of team documentation, policies, procedures, and standards


  • B.S. or equivalent 
  • At least 8 years hands on experience with enterprise Linux environments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to succeed under pressure and in fast paced environment
  • Experience with clustering, replication, and other high-availability and disaster recovery technologies
  • Experience with multiple UNIX and Linux platforms including Debian (Ubuntu) and Red Hat (CentOS)
  • Experience with configuration management platforms such as BCFG2, Puppet, and/or Chef
  • Experience with VMware vSphere 5.x
  • Experience with HP and Dell server hardware
  • Experience with EMC storage arrays
  • Experience using scripting languages for task automation (Python, Perl, Shell, etc.)
  • Experience in the financial services industry a plus
