The Team:

The Software Development team at NCSA is an agile team committed to delivering high value content to the business on a basis of 1 week iterations.  Code you write on your first day here will be in production the following week.  The team operates with a strong emphasis on Test Driven Development and spends most of the week pair programming. 

Our team integrates with the overall company to gather requirements and respond quickly to changing requirements and priorities.  The team is dedicated to remaining at the forefront of web technologies that can help all elements of the Athletic Recruiting Network (Student Athletes, High School Coaches and Athletic Directors, College Coaches and Businesses) to connect with each other.


Candidates should be well-versed in Object-Oriented design principles.

Qualifications Summary:

You should be self-motivated and dedicated person who loves web technology.  Qualified persons must thrive both in an independent and team environment.  You need to be able to have fun while working. We work closely in an open environment where you need to play nicely with others.  The culture of the team is incredibly important to the hiring process. You must be able to take ownership of projects and complete those projects accurately and efficiently. You must also be able to participate in various internal teams and have the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and deadlines.


The Software Development team follows Scrum practices with 1 week iterations and daily scrums to update team progress.   A Software Developer will be responsible for:

  • Understand and help develop future architecture using J2EE and/or Ruby on Rails
  • Plan projects in order to accomplish goals within constraints such as time, cost, and agreed upon quality standards
  • Help design and develop software code changes and new features


  • Schedule and participate in meetings with NCSA staff, designers, engineers and developers
  • Obtain, discuss, and follow-through with feedback from the constituents.
  • Perform code reviews and help grow fellow team members.
  • Support and help troubleshoot delivered work during implementation and post-implementation
  • Ensure expectations are met and exceeded in terms of quality of product and service delivered

General Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in technologies mentioned above
  • Bachelors Degree from an Accredited University  in Computer Science or a Related Field
  • Excellent knowledge of Software Development  Life Cycle
