Main Functions
Due to recently tendered projects, we are looking for experienced Electrical Commissioning Technicians to join our Commissioning Team on oil and gas projects in Canada.
The Electrical Commissioning Technician will be responsible for the commissioning of all the electrical equipment and processes on site, providing technical direction across the process, monitoring and reporting to the Project Manager on site. The work will involve liaising with the Commissioning Team to ensure that contract deadlines are met and that the work is carried out correctly the first time, to the client’s satisfaction, on time and within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements.
A successful candidate must bring with them solid experience in the oil and gas industry specifically in commissioning. Candidates must detail their commissioning experience on their resume/CV (Curriculum Vitae) to include specific project experience and equipment for due consideration.
This is a rotational camp position (standard rotation 14 days on / 7 days off) with flights provided.

Alberta Oil Sands Project(s), Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada
Responsibilities
-
Ensure compliance with the site cardinal safety rules and with all safety aspects in the execution of work.
-
Complete field level risk assessments.
-
Safely perform commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and diagnose faults on the following:
-
medium voltage distribution systems.
-
low voltage distribution systems.
-
medium voltage switchgear and Motor Control Centers (MCCs).
-
low voltage switchgear and MCCs.
-
medium voltage Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and motors.
-
low voltage VFDs motors and other loads.
-
lighting and small power uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
-
heat tracing systems.
-
Completion of approved commissioning check sheets.
-
Perform system walk downs; punch listing of faulty or missing items and rectification of those items.

Assist vendor representatives and site operations in commissioning and startup (energisation) activities for medium and low voltage electrical systems on site.

Communicate design discrepancies and design issues to the Commissioning Operations Manager and the Site Project Manager.
Education and Skills
-
Applicants must hold a valid Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) Journeyperson certificate and/or an Alberta Journeyperson Electrician certificate.

Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a construction environment as an industrial electrician.

Minimum 3 years prior site commissioning experience directly performing electrical commissioning and pre-commissioning work in an oil and gas, mining or similar industrial environment.

Possess a strong safety focus and exceptional safety record.

Exceptional electrical (instrument/mechanical) aptitude and trouble shooting skills.

Must be able to use a variety of electrical testing equipment and tools.

Must be able to read and interpret circuit diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, CEC, CSA installation standards etc.

Experience on medium and low voltage distribution equipment.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment such as a turnaround/plant shutdown.

Highly motivated, creative and proactive with willingness and ability to multi-task.

Strong interpersonal, time management, organisational and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and within a diverse trades team environment.
