Food & Beverage Team Member (Multiple Positions)

Description

This position will work during the Zoo's peak season.

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

To initiate and complete food sales transactions with Zoo visitors in a friendly and positive manner, answer all inquiries for Zoo information, and provide superior customer service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiating and completing all sales transactions in food and beverage.
  • Greet all customers, suggestive sell, and prepare orders.
  • Responsible for handling transactions quickly and accurately, balancing cash drawer, and completing deposit.
  • Provide outstanding customer service at all times. 
  • Maintain updated and thorough knowledge of all aspects of the Kansas City Zoo and Friends of the Zoo in order to answer customer questions and promote zoo programs.
  • Keep work area clean and neat at all times. Make sure that supplies are stocked.  Pick up trash any time you see it.  Assist managers with cleaning, trash removal, etc.
  • Assist with preparation, proper storage, and delivery of food items for restaurants/catering.
  • Provide highest quality of food at all times.
  • Maintain health department standards for food preparation.
  • Keep kitchen area and freezers clean and stocked.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, utensils, and workspaces.
  • Report any spills or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Work with other guest services team members.
  • Abide by all FOTZ policies, procedures and operational directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by managers, supervisors or team leaders.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Active.    Sufficient mobility, vision and hearing are needed to ensure a safe work environment.  Job requires moderate levels of standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor/Outdoor environment. Must be able to handle extreme temperatures. 

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Daily with employees

External: Daily with guests and volunteers

 

SKILLS NEEDED:

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Ability to deal professionally and effectively with all types of people.

Must be able to count change and handle money.

Must be able to operate cash register and other food equipment.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be 16 years of age or older.


 

DECISION MAKING:

None.

 

SUPERVISION:

Supervision required.


 

EMOTIONAL:

Medium.   Hectic environment.  Occasional periods of stress.
