Admissions/Guest Services Team Member (Multiple Positions)

This position will work during the Zoo's peak season.

 

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Seeking out-going, energetic individuals to be part of our Admissions Team who can show a real passion for Kansas City and our wonderful Zoo.  The right candidate will be able to meet and exceed guest service and membership goals and inspire greater support for our continuing improvements.  These seasonal positions run from late February through late October and will give you the opportunity to utilize guest service skills in a unique and fun environment. This candidate is responsible to initiate and complete admissions and membership sales transactions with zoo visitors in a friendly and positive manner, answer all inquiries for zoo information, and provide superior customer service.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for greeting and welcoming all guests while also initiating and completing sales transactions with Zoo guests using our ticketing system.  This includes greeting of all guests, suggestive selling, membership fulfillment, selling group tickets and ride tickets, cash and credit card handling, scanning admission tickets and also stroller rentals.
  • Processing all ticket transactions quickly and accurately utilizing the proper buyer types and correct cash handling procedures.  Drawer should balance at the end of the shift.
  • Must be able to talk to guests utilizing sales techniques to sell memberships.
  • Responsible for selling tickets, memberships, group tickets, ride tickets, strollers/wheelchairs and scanning tickets for admission.
  • Provide outstanding guest service at all times.
  • If necessary, provide assistance to guests who may have special needs.  This may include, assisting with strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and ECV’s for the guest.
  • Assist in cleaning, maintaining proper functioning strollers, wagons, ECV’s and wheelchairs.
  • Scanning of tickets and memberships and verifying each ticket with the appropriate date, etc.
  • Keeping work area clean and neat at all times.  This includes equipment, counters, floors, walls, etc.
  • Keeping rack cards, brochures, ticket stock, and other supplies well stocked and in good order.  Advise manager when products are running low.
  • Assisting Group Sales Reservationist in handling groups upon arrival.
  • Assist Guest Services Manager on duty in directing guests in an emergency situation.
  • Work cooperatively with other guest services team members.
  • Abide by all FOTZ policies, procedures and operational directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Guest Services Manager.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Active. Sufficient mobility, vision and hearing are needed to ensure a safe work environment.  Job requires high levels of standing, walking, sitting and occasional lifting.  Some positions may consist of low physical activity. High level of communication on the phone and in person is required at all times.


 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Adverse working environment including some indoor climate controlled areas and also in an outdoor environment as well.


 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Daily with management and employees

External: Daily with guests and volunteers


 

SKILLS NEEDED:

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Ability to deal professionally and effectively with all types of people.

Must be able to count change and handle money.

Must be able to operate cash register and other equipment.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be 16 years of age or older.


 

DECISION MAKING:

None.


 

SUPERVISION:

Supervision required.


 

EMOTIONAL:

Medium.   Hectic environment.  Occasional periods of stress.
