Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst

The successful candidate will work closely with Geospatial experts within our Information Services Department and support a range of business groups across the organization including Canadian Operations, Safety & Social Responsibility, Investor Relations and other groups that require assistance with spatial data research, building map templates, and GIS data analysis. The intent of this role is to provide the mentoring and foundational technical support required to enable teams to self-support their own GIS mapping needs.

This position is located in our Calgary office and reports directly to the Chief Geophysicist.

Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
• Create, update and manage ArcGIS and other geospatial data layers using documented standards
• Create ArcGIS maps and map templates for clients across the organization with a focus on mentoring teams to self-support their own GIS mapping needs
• Provide general ArcGIS application support, GIS data analysis support and user training as required
• Mentor other technologists on the usage of GIS data and ArcMap
• Convert files from various formats (e.g Autocad, Microstation, *.dxf) into ArcGIS using FME software
• Support IS  in the creation and maintenance of templates and reports in ArcGIS web server
• Work with IS to support Corporate Geospatial initiatives
• Support the development and updating of new and existing procedures/standards for Enerplus Geospatial data

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
• Technical diploma or undergraduate degree in the GIS field
• 5+ years of related experience in a GIS role in the Oil and Gas industry using ArcGIS
• Proficient in defining and executing the steps required to build geospatial solutions that meet a variety of business needs
• Proficiency with ArcGIS10 and ArcGIS web server, FME, ESRI 10 (or higher) and Microsoft Office products
• Capable of working with different survey grid systems, and coordinate reference systems
• Skilled in maintaining and updating a Corporate GIS database, conducting spatial data conversions, and working with imagery data and large volumes of digital files
• Experience with Geoscout is considered an asset
• Self-motivated and highly organized at working with multiple requests from different people
• Established track record of understanding responsibilities and following through on commitments
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to relate the business impact of GIS analysis to technical and non-technical staff
