ROLE DEFINITION
 

The Divisional Controller will be responsible for all of the division’s financial functions and will provide financial leadership for the division. It is critical for the Controller to have a business orientation with an operational focus and to be a true strategic and business partner to the VP & GM and other members of the division’s leadership team. The Controller will work in a hands-on environment, influencing day-to-day business decisions in partnership with the businesses and providing counsel to the VP & GM. The Controller must be able to work well within the division as well as at the Group and Corporate levels acting as a representative of the divisional leadership team in those forums.

 

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURE

 

The Oil & Gas Systems Division of CWFC currently a $250m business has the following key challenges for the next 3-5 years during which time it will more than double:

 

  • Develop and implement an integrated international growth strategy
  • Improve the Operational Excellence in all business units
  • Develop and implement an integrated Aftermarket services strategy
  • Identify and pursue acquisitions that support the systems strategy growth initiatives

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the financial functions of the division in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, other regulatory and advisory organizations e.g., Government and related Regulatory Agencies, and in accordance with CW financial policies and other appropriate financial management techniques and practices.

The Controller’s responsibilities will include:

 

  • Planning, controlling and directing the organization’s corporate accounting and finance activities ensuring a strong financial position and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC Regulations, statutory tax guidelines, Government Contracting and related regulatory requirements and internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Participating in the development of the division's plans and programs. He/she will provide strategic financial input and leadership on key decisions affecting the organization today and in the future.
  • Providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends to assist the VP & GM and other staff in performing their responsibilities and achieving financial objectives. Additionally, work with the corporate and group finance staff to provide proper and accurate financial information.
  • Prepare VP & GM presentations for quarterly VP meetings, Board of Director Meetings, Strategic Planning and any other presentations that may be required.
  • Providing financial leadership on acquisitions from performing pre-acquisition due diligence through post-acquisition integration activities.
  • Enhancing and/or developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures of the organization by way of new/updated systems that will improve the overall operation, controls and effectiveness of the division.
  • Continuously improving the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
  • Initiating appropriate strategies to enhance the division’s free cash flow.
  • Preparing timely filing of all accounting and financial reports for governmental and regulatory agencies annually.
  • Supporting business unit management in the following areas: development of overall division operating models and profitability projections; provide support and financial modeling in the negotiation of complex contracts; and provide financial reporting support.
  • Participating in and providing leadership as a member of the division’s leadership team in the following areas: determination of the division’s overall strategy, services, and markets; resolution of corporate issues; maintenance of close working relationships with the corporate office; and overseeing and assisting with the integration of all areas of the business.
  • Interviewing, selecting, recommend hiring, training and assigning of direct and indirect Finance staff. The will provide direction and mentoring, and will develop and communicate performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of staff, both as a department and individually. He/she will evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees; maintain harmonious employee/employer relations; and develop and implement staffing and development plans and related budgets.
  • Performing or assisting with any departmental operations, as required or directed to maintain workflow and meet production schedules and requirements.
  • Attending and participating in a variety of meetings and task force groups within the division and across the group or corporation to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and Experience

 

Prospective candidates will have a demonstrated record of success in positions of increasing financial management responsibility and will be exceptional at developing, managing and leading directly or indirectly the full complement of financial, operational and administrative responsibilities of the organization. He/She will be a seasoned financial manager with a reputation for his/her financial acumen, strategic thinking, business judgment, quantitative analysis ability, and leadership skills. An ideal background will include experience in a mid-sized, growth-oriented, engineering and manufacturing organization with strong long-term contract experience, as well as, acquisition and international experience. A strong understanding of manufacturing and a keen appreciation for the issues confronting an evolving, dynamic, international business with operational complexities is also required. The employee has to be well versed in many subjects including mergers and acquisitions, government contracting issues, and international contracting issues. The employee must understand both the economic and financial requirements of all the businesses within the division.  Microsoft Office expertise is a must (Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

The Controller must possess the leadership skills to inspire others through conviction, respect, and the ability to articulate and formulate financial strategy and direction. He/She must fit in with and help foster the kind of culture that the VP & GM is developing and continue building on the momentum that is apparent in the current environment. This person must possess the intellectual horsepower to guide the organization, and this intellect must be complemented by a strong process orientation, a demonstrated track record of being a user, as well as a provider of information, and a qualitative orientation toward all business practices.

 

This individual needs to be well organized, persistent, and metrics-driven; and possessing strong relationship instincts. Energy, creativity, focus, multi-dimensional thinking, strong work ethic and interpersonal skills are dominant characteristics which would enable him/her to succeed within a team-oriented, interactive environment that is not conducive to self-centered agendas. An entrepreneurial, open-minded individual with excellent communication skills is a must. This person must also possess the highest levels of maturity, ethics and professional integrity.

 

EDUCATION
 

A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, MBA and/or CPA highly desirable; plus twelve to fifteen years of related experience with at least five to seven years in a management position is required.

 

COMPENSATION

 

The Division will design an attractive compensation and benefits package to include base salary and bonus (short- and long-term), commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and contributions.
