Citizen Schools partners with public middle schools in low income communities by adding three hours to the end of the school day, giving students access to three major curricula: hands-on, engaging academic lessons that reinforce learning from the traditional school day, a robust college access and readiness program that focuses on what students need to do right now to make college an option for them, and our signature program element, apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are semester-long hands-on learning projects taught by volunteer professionals from the community, exploring whatever topic they are passionate about, from law to spoken word poetry to robotics. The National Teaching Fellowship is a two year AmeriCorps program for individuals who are eager to participate in education reform. Members of the National Teaching Fellowship teach in the expanded day, grow in a professional role, and serve as community builders dedicated to closing the opportunity and achievement gaps. TEACH:

Citizen Schools seeks a strong, diverse and talented cohort of individuals to join its National Teaching Fellowship. Citizen Schools currently has partnerships with school districts in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Texas. Successful applicants will possess a range of attributes, including (but not limited to):
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Teaching Fellows receive a monthly AmeriCorps stipend of $1,900/month, plus a generous benefit package including full health care coverage, a transportation allowance, three weeks’ annual vacation, and extensive training and professional development. Teaching Fellows also have access to benefits available to those in service with AmeriCorps, including the $5,500 Segal Education Award for each successfully completed year of service, loan forbearance, and a national support network of members and alumni.
