Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation (AFCC) -- a joint venture between Daimler, Ford Motor Company and Ballard Power Systems -- is developing next-generation technology for zero-emission automobiles. Today, AFCC fuel cell technology powers more than 150 zero-emission vehicles and counting. AFCC is actively seeking an enthusiastic Senior Engineer or Scientist to join the MEA and electrode engineering team to apply their expertise in the engineering of coatings to help develop current and next generation MEA designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and engineer wet layer coating and drying processes to fabricate world class MEA prototypes.
  • Characterize coatings and develop design and process specifications.
  • Work with MEA Design and Materials engineers to build relationships between ink structure, coating structure and fuel cell performance.
  • Source and procure state-of-the-art ink mixing and coating equipment.
  • Build transfer functions between small and large scale process equipment.
  • Network with experts from industry and academia.               

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree in science or engineering.
  • 10+ yrs experience in process engineering of coatings that are used to build products.
  • Expertise in selecting coating equipment and engineering of coating processes.
  • Experience in how ink properties interacts with the coating process.
  • Hands-on experience in research, engineering and manufacturing.
  • Experience in overcoming technology barriers with innovation.
  • Passion to solve problems hands on.
  • Network within the ink and coating community.

The ideal candidate has industrial experience in large scale manufacturing.
