Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Services Delivery, the Principal Security Consultant at Vigilant is expected to leverage his/her extensive technical abilities to provide innovative, pragmatic and business-focused security solutions for our customers. Principal Security Consultants work in the capacity of a Vigilant Project Managers on multiple, concurrent engagements to architect and deliver a variety of solutions, in such functional areas as Security Information / Event Management (SIEM), Security Architecture & Design, and general Security Assessments. The Principal Security Consultant will be a mentor within the Professional Services team, and will provide expert advice and guidance to partners and newer Vigilant consultants.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years in a technical/security consulting environment; combination of both consulting and corporate experience preferred
  • BA/BS required, computer science or related major preferred
  • Strong fundamentals about current industry technologies, trends, and techniques
  • Excellent proven written and oral skills
  • Ability to provide effective presentations
  • Able to work effectively on their own and as a team leader

Key Analytical & Technical Skills  

  • Expert knowledge of SIEM products (ArcSight, e-Security, Network Intelligence, etc.)
  • Ability to design complex, enterprise-scale network security architectures
  • Extensive knowledge in the use and configuration of relational databases, including Oracle and SQL Server
  • Expert knowledge in the use of Unix (Solaris/Linux) and Windows Server Family (NT/2000)
  • Extensive experience with Intrusion Detection Systems, Firewalls, Proxy Servers, Antivirus, NAC, or other network security infrastructure
  • Familiarity with the integration of 3rd-party applications (ETL tools, data mining, business intelligence products)
  • Ability to analyze complex issues for impact and alternative solutions, making logical decisions based on overall product objectives
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently. High level of self-initiative and self-motivation. 


Key Project Delivery Skills

  • Demonstrated excellence in delivering enterprise security solutions, from design and planning to deployment.
  • Prior demonstrable success in delivering superior quality work on time and within budget.
  • Ability to provide Project Management / Client Communication support, including requirements definition, project scoping, project planning, and risk assessment.
  • Ability to derive detailed specifications from clients, to write requirements documentation, and to assist in defining QA testing procedures and technical guidelines for Technical Consultants and QA Department
  • Understand client requirements and design and provide architectural experience based on those requirements on business model
  • Demonstrated ability to provide innovative state-of-the-art technical solutions
  • Ability to recognize project changes, identify risks and contingency plans, and work with Project Manager through change control process
  • Document technical status reports prepared for project personnel
  • Assist in Project tracking to ensure on time project progress; direct effort of development team
  • Customer Service/Communication:
  • Able to build strong client relationships and be able to interact effectively at all levels of client organization
  • Ability to work with Technical Partners, and 3rd party integrators
  • Continuous contribution of best practices documentation and technical notes for internal and external distribution

Key Sales Skills

  • Able to recognize and effectively communicate possibilities to sell additional consulting services as it relates to client’s needs
  • Work with Project Managers and Consulting Director to estimate work and architect solutions
  • Contribute to engagement planning including pre-sales support for RFP’s, RFI’s, and client meetings


Travel should be expected 25-50% of the time. Most travel will be domestic, but global customer base may require some international travel.
