Management/Sales Trainee Program - Floor Covering

Sherwin-Williams is the largest wholesale floor covering provider in the nation, with over 120 locations.

The Paint Store Group (PSG) Management Trainee Program (Floor Covering) is designed to provide you with all the skills necessary for a successful career in management and/or outside professional sales. The Program includes self-study modules, structured on-the-job training, classroom instruction at our regional training facilities, as well as ongoing education throughout your career. Training topics include: floor covering and related products, paint and associated products, customer service, professional sales and marketing, credit and accounts receivable management, human resources management, and merchandising management. Additionally, your training will include exposure to profit and loss (P&L) statement analysis and decision-making in order to maximize profits.

 As core to this program, you will also develop a detailed understanding of all floor covering products with an emphasis on those that pertain to multi-family, new residential, and commercial applications. You will work with all scopes of customers from large national builders and property managers to local General Contractors and floor installers. By building affiliations with floor covering organizations and business groups, you will attend trade shows and regional customer meetings to provide products and lead the installation process. Additionally, we work with various manufacturing representatives within the floor covering industry with regard to product recommendations and purchasing.

With opportunities to develop floor covering sales leads through our Lead Generation program and direct interaction with customers, many Management Trainees choose a path that leads to a career in professional sales. With an opportunity to be creative in developing new floor covering business, Sherwin-Williams’ sales professionals grow the Company’s market share by selling to large, commercial users, such as painting contractors, purchasing agents, manufacturers and other commercial users who need large volumes of our high quality products. Generally, sales professionals apply their trade in specific regions or territories. Management Trainees are eligible for professional sales positions once a track record of success within the stores has been established.

To join our Management Training Program, you must have an entrepreneurial spirit, demonstrated leadership ability and work experience in customer service and/or sales.


Preferences: Previous experience in the service industry, food industry, retail, and/or hospitality. Excellent phone and customer service skills.

Basic Requirements:

- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for employment. You may apply for this position if you have your bachelors degree, or will obtain one within the next 12 months
- Must submit to a background screening which may include driving, credit and criminal history
- Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
- Must be willing to work all scheduled hours which may include evenings and weekends, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must be willing to relocate to other facilities within the Southeastern Division (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida)

Initial placement will be in one of our Floor Covering Branches in the Southeastern Division (Southeast U.S.)
