Reporting to an Associate Director, Technology, the Development Manager is responsible for leading technology teams in planning, developing and launching interactive solutions for our clients. The Development Manager relies on their experience and knowledge gained through participating in a variety of technology initiatives. In addition to managing the technical project team, the Development Manager will interact with the variety of resources within the organization including application architects, designers, information architects, and client services managers to help ensure the successful delivery of the entire project.
Essential Job Functions
Practice Development

Stay up-to-date with current technologies, techniques, and apply this knowledge to project work

Contribute to and guide the Technology Domain point of view

Manage direct reports and perform annual performance reviews. Guide and mentor assigned direct reports.
Client Delivery
-
Lead and manage technology teams to deliver on-time, robust solutions for our clients
-
Actively participate in project requirements definition
-
Enforce appropriate standards, processes, and documentation required to successfully deliver projects as well as required to comply with internal and/or client methodologies
-
Apply appropriate packaged (off-the-shelf) software solutions and services as required by the project
-
Define sourcing/staffing plan for assigned projects

Work with technical project team to author SRS and SAD documents

Manage technology work and scope to the project’s SOW, SRS, and any other document signed off by the client; help Project Manager identify needs for change orders

Serve as single point of contract to other domains for all assigned project work

Drive client discussions regarding project status and provide technology insights and recommendations

Work with client IT contacts to determine the appropriate technical strategy for the project

Contribute technical tasks and activities to overall project plan
Business Development

Contribute to new SOWs for new clients

Help define project budgets and timelines

Accurately estimate hours and project time needs as well as any accompanying assumptions

Identify opportunities with our clients to innovate and expand our work
Required Qualifications
-
A Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, CIS, CS or Communications or equivalent experience
-
1-3 years experience managing or mentoring technology teams to deliver web-based applications.

1-3 years experience with SDLC methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.)

Experience with the Rational Unified Process (RUP)
-
Ability to identify major project risks and issues and raise them in a timely fashion

Demonstrated understanding of web application development best practices, including use case development, object-oriented analysis, design, and programming, UML, reusable design patterns, and multi-tier architectures, understanding of web technologies including HTML/JavaScript/XML/CSS, JSP, ASP.NET, and Flash

Ability to effectively drive a technical project team to success despite project ambiguity

Ability to effectively and accurately delegate responsibilities and balance work across available resources

Understanding of the role of QA processes in the overall project success

Strong communication skills with the ability to present information in verbal, written or visual form to a variety of audiences, from the internal team to client executives

Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team oriented and creative environment
Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing teams to implement complex visual designs for public-facing web sites

Travel Requirements
