Description

PURPOSE:

The position assumes overall responsibility for the entire maintenance effort.  As such, the incumbent is responsible for directing, coordinating, staffing, and training within the maintenance department.  Also responsible for developing and implementing a successful preventative/predictive maintenance program throughout the facility to improve equipment reliability and performance, as well as serving in a leadership role for communicating preventative maintenance programs/maintenance performance plans across the organization, within budgetary objectives.  Supports capital projects as needed. This position is also responsible for setting a high standard for safety, quality, housekeeping, productivity and performance for all maintenance associates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a key member of the plant management team, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation of maintenance methods and improvement projects to continuously seek the improvement of the plant operation. The operational life of the plant assets will be maximized through timely and cost effective equipment repair or replacement.

  • Ensures the safety of all members of the Department by enforcing safety rules and by supporting programs promoting a safe working environment.
  • Develops a long-term maintenance vision consistent with the directions and goals of the Plant, working closely with the plant management team.
  • Develops medium to short term goals and objectives, working closely with the plant management team and the members of the Department. Integrates these goals and objectives into the Plant Performance Plan.
  • Develops short term actions plans and objectives for the Department
  • Provide effective leadership for the department in the areas of teamwork, people development and communication.
  • Develops and manages the annual Maintenance Budget
  • Promotes a learning environment within the Department to maximize the contributions made by all employees and to ensure continuous improvement of all employees’ skills.
  • Inspires and facilitates the continuous improvement of plant personnel and processes.
  • Fully supports all activities related to Reliability, Planning, and PPM to ensure all Maintenance Targets are met.
  • Supports problem solving activities such as RCFA in the execution of the improvement program.
  • Continuously assesses the resources needs for the Department to provide the most efficient and cost effective operation.
  • Ensures the involvement of the Maintenance Group in all capital projects.
  • Ensures internal and external reports are appropriately distributed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree
  • 5 - 7 years of maintenance management experience in a fast paced, demanding environment, preferably continuous manufacturing..
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing equipment repairs, and predictive maintenance tools and programs.
  • Proven experience in scheduling major work and plant shutdowns
  • Excellent leadership ability and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Experience with Computerized Mechanical Maintenance System (CMMS) an asset.
  • Ability to work on many tasks at the same time while keeping excellent organizational skills.
  • Very strong computer skills.
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.). Experience with SDWT an asset.
  • Well organized and systematic
