Senior Environmental Graphic Designer

Position Description

The Gensler Chicago Office is seeking a Senior Environmental Graphic Designer to lead a wide variety of environmental graphics, branded environment, and signage/wayfinding projects. This individual will be working with an interdisciplinary team of architecture, interior and graphic designers developing projects ranging from strategic planning to corporate interiors, retail and healthcare. 

This position requires prior experience in the following areas:

  • Managing client assignments and teams
  • Leading design assignments
  • Point of contact on projects for clients, vendors, and teams
  • Documentation and management of wayfinding, signage and environmental graphic projects 
  • Generation of design intent documents, message schedules, and sign location plans 
  • Fabrication and installation supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to read architectural construction documents and shop drawings a plus

Qualified applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 10 years experience (post-graduation) in environment graphic design
  • A strong design process that includes conceptual thinking, user-understanding and empathy, and a strong understanding of brand
  • A strong design sensibility with the ability to integrate messaging, color, imagery and type into three-dimensional built solutions
  • Strong wayfinding planning capabilities, including research, user-analysis, planning, development and documentation of design solutions
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work well in a team environment  
  • Strong organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Flexibility to work on projects of all scales and types, both collaboratively and independently
  • Required professional degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Graphic Design or related field
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Word and Excel
  • CAD and Revit experience is a + but not required
