PSYCHOLOGIST
1 Full Time - Mental Health
Start September 2013

DESCRIPTION:
St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will be opening open a 15-bed inpatient mental health unit and related outpatient programs and services in the fall of 2013.

Reporting to the Manager, and working as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Psychologist completes psychological assessments, provides and supervises psychological treatment and psychosocial interventions, liaises with external agencies, attends clinical consultation/case conferences, and evaluates the effectiveness and appropriateness of treatment.  The Psychologist maintains client records including documenting client diagnosis and most effective form of treatment, charting client information and assessment results, and preparing progress notes and psychological reports. The Psychologist participates in quality improvement, research and risk management activities.  In addition, the psychologist provides clinical teaching and supervision to program staff members, Psychology Residents and students.

 HOURS:  37.5 hours a week and on-call responsibility

 EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology from a recognized university
  • Certificate of registration as a Psychologist in the province of Ontario
  • Two (2) years recent related clinical experience
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislative acts
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders including addictions
  • Ability to plan and organize workload and establish priorities
  • Demonstrated advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in CBT, Psychological Assessment, individual and group interventions
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Collaboration with community agencies, and resources
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of community and facility contacts
  • Ability to respect client’s rights, values, and preferences including multi-cultural issues
