Wellness Coach II

Description

 

The Wellness Coach II ensures members are engaged and retained through face-to-face communication which takes place during Wellness Coaching Sessions, interaction on the floor, and in group fitness sessions.  Wellness Coaches are expected to provide safe, effective instruction and guidance for a diverse range of people at various levels of fitness.  Wellness Coaches welcome, inspire, and nurture each member to reach their fitness goals.

 

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education, experience, and certification to include:
    • An Associate’s or higher degree from an accredited university with a focus of study/major in physical education, exercise science or related field.
    • Minimum one year experience in providing fitness coaching/training in health club environment.
    • Currently Personal Training certified by NASM, ACSM, ACE or other accredited organization recognized by the YMCA
  • Completion of a satisfactory audition with the wellness coordinator or director..
  • Currently certified in CPR/AED, or be certified within 30 days of hire.
  • Certified in YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning (or equivalent certification with another organization) and YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles within 90 days of hire.
  • This position requires a commitment to the YMCA mission and its core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring as well as a commitment to building developmental assets in adults and youth. Additionally, the candidate should value diversity, youth, and have a broad vision of health and wellness that is enhanced by relationship building.
  • Must be able to work weekends and nights.
  • Nutritional experience is preferred.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works proactively during each shift to build relationships with members by walking around the fitness floor
  • Engages members in conversation regarding their fitness goals and how the YMCA can aid in their achievement
  • Conduct 1 hour wellness sessions for new and existing members. 
  • Administer member interviews and conduct member feedback surveys for each wellness session
  • Create a plan for skills practice for the member in between wellness sessions and after the final wellness session
  • Capture and document Y stories told by members
  • Uphold member based retention implementation and strategies
  • Follow and complete member based retention end of shift reports
  • Promote the use of Fitlinxx to members and personal resolve Fitlinxx triggers during each shift
  • Teach members how to use cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights
  • Ensure the safety of each members by walking throughout the fitness floor
  • Maintain the fitness floor in a clean and pristine way
  • Understand fully and uphold the YMCA of Silicon Valley staff pledge
  • Report to all shifts on time, ready to work, and attend all mandatory staff meeting
