Olin Chlor Alkali is currently hiring a Maintenance Superintendent for the McIntosh, AL plant. We are looking for maintenance talent with potential for advancement into a manager role within the chlor alkali division (any location).
This position directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems by performing the following duties personally or through others:
Responsible for safety and environmental performance of the maintenance department and its’ contractors (including leadership of safety related continuous improvement efforts)
Performs safety inspections and is responsible for implementing recommended corrective actions from incident reports, inspections and audits.
Actively involved in Olin’s continuous improvement program (Operational Excellence & 8-step analysis)
Supports quality programs
Participates in development of maintenance supervisors, planners and schedulers by providing coaching, mentoring and performance feedback
Assures that Maintenance procedures and work practices are current and comply with Process Safety Management and best industry practices.
Assures maintenance activities will be executed according to the regulation in force for pressure vessel, lifting equipment, fire protection network, refrigeration system, electric equipment, etc
Primary responsibility for maintenance budgeting, estimating and cashflow forecast
Facilitates positive change in the Maintenance organization by proactively driving department initiatives such as craftsman skills improvements, SAP implementation, Planning and Scheduling improvement initiatives, Maintenance cost, Warehouse cost and plant downtime reduction projects, etc.
Oversees capital project implementation when using existing maintenance staff.
Establishes priorities, makes assignments, and ensures necessary supervision to monitor job execution and compliance with established standards.
Supervises planning and scheduling for daily activities
Responsible for overall management of plant and unit shutdowns/turnarounds
Manages the repair of critical equipment in the field and with outside vendors.
Oversees and troubleshoots process equipment problems and supports reliability based maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime.
Oversees all work in process areas and assures maximum efficiency at lowest possible cost; consistent with safety of personnel and equipment.
Coordinates with Supply Chain management and other maintenance groups on the leveraging of contractors and suppliers.
Continuously improves maintenance work processes to improve productivity and effectiveness.
Assures to track, record, share and set improvement target based on maintenance key performance indicators
Implements Maintenance Excellence initiatives.
Provide input and review of capital projects to improve reliability and maintainability.
Strives to resolve labor conflicts and hears union grievances for areas of responsibility.
Interacts with EHS, production, and other departments to ensure that business needs are met.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of employees in the Maintenance Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, mentoring junior employees.
Requirements Include:
Bachelor's degree* in Engineering with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a manufacturing maintenance department or equivalent department required; chemical plant, paper and pulp or refinery maintenance experience strongly preferred.
Experience with development of salaried and hourly employees.
Experience and familiarity with PSM, mechanical integrity and OSHA regulations.
Experience working in unionized environment preferred
Computer proficiency with MS Office and other maintenance scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera, OpenPlan, etc); strong CMMS skill preferably SAP PM module knowledge.
Good interpersonal skills and team leadership skills.
Understanding of industrial design standards, repair standards and maintenance practices.
Excellent communication ability and use of facilitation skills to align plant to business objectives.
Capable of developing and implementing strategic plans.
Proactive problem solving approach focused on action.
Ability to organize and prioritize.
Good interpersonal and communication skills – work with multiple departments to solve problems.
Working knowledge of proper equipment design, operation and maintenance.
Strong technical and leadership background.
