Position Description:

McCormick Rankin, a member of MMM Group is currently seeking a Highway Engineer to join our Highway department, located at our Ottawa office. Reporting to the department manager this position will be responsible for the delivery of multidiscipline Highway Design projects (from rural highways to freeway type facilities).

Responsibilities and Duties:

Responsibilities will include highway design and design guidance to other team members as well as a wide range of project requirements including but not limited to:

  • Prepare technical analysis and design;
  • Responsible for report preparation;
  • Responsible for cost estimating;
  • Prepare and review drawings;
  • Manage contract specifications/documentation;
  • Liaison with all discipline team members, sub-consultants, clients and agencies;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with the ability to effectively prioritize;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited university;
  • 5+ years of experience in design and coordination of road and /or highway facilities
  • Registered as a P. Eng.
  • Experience with all aspects of highway/freeway design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, CPS, Q-sheets, documents, constructability);
  • Ability to estimate design level of effort, meet milestone schedule deliverables, deliver projects within budget etc;
  • Understanding of traffic engineering principles;
  • General understanding of other road design requirements (e.g. drainage/hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measures, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design);
  • General understanding of QA / QC as well as Environmental Health and Safety practices / requirements;
  •  Ability to work with various software packages (i.e. CAD, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project and Powerpoint); 
  • Ability to work with InRoads an asset;
  • Familiarity with Ontario’s regulatory environment and experience with approval processes is an asset;
  • Design/build experience is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction on routine tasks;
  • Ability to lead and mentor other engineers/technicians;
  • Experience with technical writing, minute preparation, etc;
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of sub-consultants;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Committed team player;
  • Previous experience in the consulting industry would be an asset.
