Position Description:

McCormick Rankin, a member of MMM Group Limited is currently seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our Bridge Department located in our Ottawa office.  This position will give you the opportunity to work on varied projects that will include preliminary and detailed design of bridges and other civil structures, cost estimating, checking of designs and drawings, review of shop drawings, specifications and contract document preparation, structural assessment/inspections and preparation of reports and proposals. This position will report to the Manager of the Bridge Department.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Preliminary and detailed design of new bridges, culverts and retaining walls, and rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • Conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls and prepare reports;
  • Prepare sketches for CAD staff and review CAD drawings;
  • Prepare technical construction specifications;
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, agencies and other consultants as necessary;
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5 – 8 years of relevant experience;
  • Post-secondary education in a Civil Engineering discipline; Masters degree is strongly recommended;
  • Registered as a P.Eng.;
  • Technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies;
  • Experience with design of rehabilitation of existing structures;
  • Specific areas of expertise required in the planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts;
  • A thorough knowledge of current design codes and standards is essential;
  • Experience in seismic analysis and design is an asset;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills;
  • Committed team player with strong organizational skills;
  • A vehicle in suitable working order and a valid driver’s license are an asset;
