Job Title:  Production Supervisor - Wood Department

Reports To:  Foreman

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Summary:  Directs and controls all manufacturing-related activities and scheduling processes to meet customer requirements through direct reports and their subordinates; Responsible for general security and overall condition of the facility; Ensures that all transactions related to inventory, labor and work order status are accurately recorded in the ERP System as they occur. This position will oversee Wood Assembly / Cut Maintenance Department. 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 


  1. Executes the production plan as defined by the Foreman.
  1. Prioritizes activities and ensures cooperation and coordination of resources across all departments to support same day next day philosophy.
  1. Ensures that work orders are prepared, distributed and flagged as completed to facilitate production and accurately report on job status.
    • Work order pouches are prepared and distributed according to the production plan as documented in eProductionSchedule.
    • All related drawings, blue prints and instructions are included.
    • Work orders modified when alternative raw materials/machines are used.
    • Work orders are created on an exception basis as needed.
    • Completed work orders are updated in MAS500 to reflect current status.
    • eProductionSchedule and MAS500 are synchronized.
    • Capacity and work load are balanced to achieve mutually agreed upon completion times and schedule is updated with progress and ETA.
    • ECO’s and Change orders are processed upon receipt.
  1. Ensures all transactions related to inventory and labor are accurately recorded in the ERP System as they occur to provide accurate costing for jobs by item.
    • Labor steps, inventory reversals, and corrections are completed as required.
    • Progress steps and reversals are performed accurately to record the quantity of finished goods produced and raw materials consumed.
    • Inbound materials are received according to established ISO Work Instructions and Inventory Control procedures.
    • Employees clock in and out according to established payroll policies.
    • Employees log in/out of work orders to according to established policies.
  1. Manages the efforts of all department employees on assigned shift to complete specific jobs within the allotted time frame.
  1. Works with other supervisors to encourage team work while promoting a safe and positive work environment across the department and shifts.

    7. Develops and implements plans to train, cross-train and develop employees on production related activities including but not limited        to proper, safe and efficient machine operation, first piece and in-process quality inspection, efficient yielding of raw materials to minimize   scrap, reading and interpreting drawings and blue prints and maintaining work areas based on established 5S standards.

  1. Holds daily and weekly team meetings when necessary.
  1. Ensures first piece and in process inspections occur as required by established ISO guidelines.
  1. Ensures equipment, machinery and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained according to established 5S standards.
  1. Resolves problems and related production difficulties in an efficient and timely manner. Offers assistance and instruction to employees as needed.
  1. Directs production activities to complete jobs using established ISO work instructions, specified machinery and equipment in the allotted time.
  1. Promotes lean manufacturing by ensuring that yielding practices are followed to minimize scrap/waste, jigs are used to simplify production processes and machinery, equipment and work cells are set up to maximize efficiency.
  1. Directs activities related to production, utilizing knowledge of manufacturing techniques, technology, procedures and capabilities of machines and equipment to ensure an effective and efficient operation.
  1. Revises the production plan and re-prioritizes work orders as issues arise, e.g.  equipment failure, customer request, staffing, etc.
  1. Monitors equipment operation and production processes to ensure quality standards are maintained and takes corrective action immediately as needed.
  1. Responds to building and employee incidents or accidents promptly and reports to management as the situation warrants.

Associate's degree (A.A.) or HS diploma/GED; or two to four year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Ability:

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; internet software; manufacturing software; ERP systems and Microsoft Outlook.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages employees and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Work Environment:
