Description

Under the supervision of the assigned branch staff, the Registered Dietician(s) position will be responsible for the development and delivery of fee-based one-on-one and small group nutritional education and consultation . The target audience will include interested members of the Valley of the Sun YMCA Association.  Specified tasks per Registered Dietician include:
  • Create an assessment tool to evaluate members’ nutritional needs
  • Develop, implement and supervise customized nutrition programs.
  • Evaluate the results of these programs and modify them as necessary.
  • Assist members with weight control and dietary management for better health conditions.
  • If necessary and/or requested, consult with doctors and other health care professionals to coordinate members’ medical and nutritional needs.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on nutrition principles, dietary planning, food selection and preparation through monthly Hot Topic and/or Nutrition Clinic presentations.
  • Complete & collect required paperwork and sign in sheets.
  • Develop and maintain a collection of all materials used in the delivery of this enhanced service.
  • Market Nutrition Services (internally and externally).
  • Participate in awareness-raising activities geared toward promoting initial nutrition services program and expanded offerings.
 
Registered Dieticians must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study, such as dietetics, human nutrition or food management.  Bilingual preferred.  Additional qualiifications include:
 
  • Completion of a year-long, supervised practice program at an accredited health care facility, community agency or food service corporation.
  • Passng the national registration examination for dieticians administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
 
This part-time position is incentive based, requires flexible hours, and is focused on fee-based one-on-one and small group nutritional education and consultation.
 
This is an enhancement component of the Nutrition Services product line offered through the Valley of the Sun YMCA Association. Currently, the Association offers Family Fuel: Designed for individuals looking for basic education on nutrition; members seeking to lose weight; individuals who are interested in improving their health; those who have been referred to attend; and families who are interested in creating healthy habits.
 
Know How
 
This position requires experience working with an adult population plus a Bachelor Degree in Nutrition Science (Registered Dietician preferred) or related field. The incumbent must possess a variety of skills to include written and oral communication abilities.
 
  • Knowledge of current nutrition recommendations
  • Experience preparing assessments to evaluate individuals’ nutrition needs
  • Ability to present to adult audiences in a relaxed, fun, and collaborative manner
  • Knowledge of existing resources related to nutrition, physical health, and healthy eating habits
  • Work within a cross-functional team in a professional manner
  • Other duties as specified by the Registered Dietician’s assigned supervisor
  • Bilingual skills strongly desired
 
Working Environment/Minimum Physical Requirement
 
  • You must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
  • You must be available for evening work.
  • You must be able to travel to all program activity sites.
  • All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work. Employees may be rechecked every two years
