JOB SUMMARY

Designer shall work in a team environment to develop mechanical piping shop and fabrication drawings fully coordinated with the architectural & structural elements of the building and the other building trades (sprinkler, sheet metal, plumbing, etc.).  Successful candidate should be fully versed in BIM projects and piping prefabrication spool drawings

 

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•Utilize McKenney’s drafting standards to create mechanical piping shop drawings.

•Coordinate all mechanical piping with the architectural and structural elements of the building.

•Produce clear and accurate drawings indicating all piping, sleeves and equipment, clearly labeled and dimensioned.

•Produce piping fabrication and spool sheets for review/use by the piping shop to pre-fabricate assemblies for field installation.

•Work with piping shop foreman to coordinate piping fabrication in the shop.

•Support engineering with piping design and layout as required on design/build projects.

•Responsible for producing all documents in a timely matter based on job requirements to meet the commitments to our customers, both internal and external.

•Effectively communicate with project managers, project engineers, field foremen and other designers during the drafting and construction process

 

 

 

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

•High school diploma or GED

•At least 5 years of experience in design and layout of piping systems

 

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Experience with CAD-Mech software from MAP.

•Experience with mechanical piping installation.

•Experience with design aspects such as pipe sizing and standard practices for piping installation.

•Associate’s degree in related field.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS

•Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural construction documents.

•Ability to visualize three-dimensional layouts from two-dimensional drawings.

•Strong written and verbal communication skills.

•Commitment to detail, deadlines and maintaining labor estimates.

•Must have a professional appearance.

•Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals

•Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.

•Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.

•Must have basic PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software

•Must be a self-starter, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently

 

 

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment

•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

•No or very limited physical effort required.
